Well, if you compile KOffice, you will see if it is really easier or not. You
can compare and give an idea if for a newbie it is a possible way or not.

As written in my previous email, the right address for KOffice is:
http://www.koffice.org

That is the build system going havoc.

As you have a RedHat system, you should perhaps try to define
  export LANG=C
before you start. (If I remember well, RedHat's default is something ending in
UTF-8.)

A side tip: defining LANG=C is also good when your make program is speaking
your language and that you want an English output for posting on a mailing
list.

That is Trolltech's script application. Kexi's script support is based on QSA.
I do not think that it is really needed for a beginner.

(Kexi is currently unstable and will not be part of kOffice 1.3.)

As written, no MS Word import filter for now. :-)

Aspell missing, not recognized or something else. I have the same error
message. I have never taken the time to look at it. (I am not sure if
spellchecking is really disabled or only switched to ispell.)

That is for Krita. Krita uses ImageMagick's library.

(Krita is currently unstable and will not be part of kOffice 1.3.)

The directory kexiDB (with upper-case DB) does not exist anymore.

As written, you should be able to build KOffice like that. Of course, you
might want to install the libraries to get more, but you can do it on a
second compile.

Please! As written, we need more newbies to get more developers. We cannot
afford to lose newbies in the cold water.
