I used them for some time and like them :-)
For me, hicolor's "accessibility" and "readability" are 
better and it uses less space for deco

No, I don't want that. Use sane defaults and let everybody choose
what they prefer. Tweaking the UI (with styles, etc.) is not a very high prio.
task for most users. Instead they want to be productive, the PC is just a
tool.

It depends on what you want to do with a system.

Not everybody has a kde guru at home ;-).

Kppp is a bit difficult to configure and it's only for dialup modem 
connections.
