Just committed a fix for this. This cannot really be fixed completely. 
Regardless of the color chosen for the text, it can happen that the user's 
color scheme and background pixmap may still end up being the same color :-( 
I have tried to provide sane defaults, but I am sure someone will complain.

Good catch. The strings were from KDE2; I updated them to KDE3 now - less work 
for translators :-)

Also fixed problem loading images. Now, we look for the images in lots of 
different places, and if the user is using a really nonstandard system, their 
distributor should fix it.

Could you please update and test?

Updated versions of 5 plugins, and 6 or so themes that use the plugins are 
provided at:
  http://www.eleceng.ohio-state.edu/~ravi/ksplash.html
Right now, the control center module is still under construction. To change to 
different themes, add the following to your .kde/share/config/ksplashrc:

[KSplash]
Theme=Landskape

Replace Landskape with whichever theme you want to use.
