Am I missing something here?  Windows *does* default to "c:\documents and 
settings\bob\My documents" for saving documents. The "My Documents" folder on 
the desktop is just a live 'link' to an individual users Documents folder 
which is buried in the file hierarchy unless it is just a single user machine 
or is set for all users to share the same doc folder.

In other words it is much the same as Linux with a 'Documents' Link on the 
desktop.
