There are quite a few where having [a good] one can be invaluable..

- - 56k modem users wanting to download anything more than a few megs 
(especially with ISPs what force a disconnect every few hours).

- - and for hose with fast connections, many download managers can download 
different bits of the same file from different servers at the same time.
 
- - people who don't want to leave their computer on or connected all the time 
(an ease of use thing- nice to have the downloads automatically carry on in 
the background on login)

- - where a whole bunch of files want to be downloaded all together - the 
manager can parse web pages, scrape the links and bung them all in a queue (I 
know wget does this already, but having a graphical tool with the above 
features as well would be nice).
