TANSTATFC - There Ain't No Such Thing As The Fastest Code ;-)

Read Michael Abrash's Graphics Programming Black Book or Zen of Code 
Optimization for lots of anecdotes on the subject during his quest for 
(amongst other things) the fastest 3D vertice mapper.

(Which doesn't say the OpenBSD code is faster, it merely says yours is by 
definition not the fastest...)
