the easiest way with an almost actual computer is to have two X-servers 
running at the same time one normal and the following like this :

XFree86 vt08 :1.0 &
export DISPLAY=:1.0
startkde

(assuming that there is nothing on virtual console 8 yet...)
so you simply switch with Ctrl-Alt-F7 and Ctrl-Alt-F8
