This sounds like a nice idea. But why should the default_selection be
reset to -1 after a paste? This makes multiple pastings impossible and
would therefore be very annoying. The default_selection could simply be
left untouched until something else is copied via ^C.

The mmb stuff is IMO much to complicated and completely unnecessary as
people who want to paste via mmb know that always the last selected
text is pasted. Furthermore pasting the last selected text would be
slowed down because everytime the clipboard selection would be shown
before the text is pasted. This would suck very much.

IMO an ideal solution would be your default_selection idea (for Windows
style copy&paste) and the normal Unix behaviour (for Unix style
copy&paste).

Klipper has changed a lot. But anyway, the decision has already been
made and klipper now has two clipboards, the selection clipboard and
the copy/paste clipboard. It's possible to synchronize them (this will
give you approx. the KDE 2 behaviour) or to separate them.
