thanks. i tried this yesterday and it didn't take -- apparently i 
didn't hit "ok," even though i thought i had. i concluded, 
erroneously, that this was the wrong place. tried again just now, and 
it worked. (fwiw, the font selection dialog comes up *behind* the 
preferences dialog, and clicking on its titlebar won't bring it 
forward. i had to move the two to where they were side-by-side. 
kde-2.2.2 with whatever qt-2.x suse-7.3 ships, xfree 4.1 and a 
neomagic vid chip.)
