I wanted to point you to ftp.kde.org, but the tarballs are not there, at 
least not in the stable tree where I'd expect them to be...

IIRC there is a mailing list dedicated to the packagers. Probably that has 
some clues on where to find the source tarballs.

If you can't find out, I think it is best to contact the 2.2.1 release 
coordinator, Waldo Bastian (bastian@kde.org), for more info.
