Here neither on a Celeron 450... The CPU is clearly not the bottleneck. Could 
it be Xft vs. "old" font handling? I'm using Xft, the other people without 
problems as well? Then we could disable the previews in the combo if Xft is 
not supported, although many people probably won't like that either...
