I'm using Mandrake's gcc 2.96 to compile KDE (and Qt, and XFree...), and I have
*NO* compiler related problems.

I think Redhat-7.2 gcc-2.96 isn't the same as Mandrake-8.0's gcc-2.96
(which came much later), despite the similar version number.
