Personally when I went to the institute of physics everyday I preferred
the slightly longer way as it enriches my life by not being as deadly
boring as the short-cut. The longer way "felt" shorter although
it took me 10 minutes instead of 7 minutes. And this is important
for users.
People who use KDE don't stand there with a clock in their hands
to measure what is faster. They will just use whatever feels faster.

And this "We-know-it-better-than-you-and-therefore-we-will-make-you-suck
-it-down-your-long-long-throat"-approach is exactly the right way to
make people feel angry and pissed off.

And you obviously know that 30% of the people won't look at these
annoying dialogs popping up on the screen just clicking mindless
on the defaults , crying out: "What-a-crap!" and going back to what
they were used to (Windows).
So making a decision doesn't go away for us by creating this
upgrade-wizard.
