Both happen when wordwap is on (did I say off ?? I meant on! Sorry.)
Do you have a running konqueror ? Enabling wordwrap (in case you disabled it)
and displaying any directory with long filenames - they don't need
to be 50 chars, at 10/12 the problems begin - will easily show you
the problem.

The horizontal distance between two icons
is computed using the full length of the filename !

The distance is computed _as if_ the second file had its
text on a single line. The fact that it's word_wrapped isn't
taken into account.
