Yes, it's been broken for a very long time because nobody
has taken the time to fix it, not because it's inherently broken.

I'm volunteering to try and fix it this weekend, but that's only
if we decide not to drop it :))

I'm not saying the current stuff is perfect - I think we should go
for shared libs, but still using corba and openparts (though
they can be improved, for instance describing the GUI in XML).
