Still... the problem is real and needs a fix. I haven't had time to test 
Rik's patch yet, but it addresses exactly the problems I have here. The 
latency of the HTTP checks is simply too big, and unnessary if you ask me.

Like in Internet Explorer there can be a forced reload with the control key 
being pressed while clicking the reload button or pressing F5. On a normal 
page request I really don't see the need for the explicit check. Dynamic 
pages like ASP or PHP should be reloaded anyway, because the server 
explicitly tells the client not to cache the page. And static content should 
never be reloaded for the same reason, because the server doesn't tell the 
client that caching gives problems.
