You could extract some classes from Kalamaris to do what you want.

It performs simple calculations as well as symbolic calculations, 
derivations, it works with matrices, etc.

It's even KDE/Qt-based.

You can see some screenshots and descriptions at

but please don't download it yet, I'll try to release a working version 
tomorrow or the day after (the current one doesn't work with KDE3 and has 
some problems that I already fixed).
