Hi,

This is a proposal of some changes that I'd like to see before KDE 3.0.

Problem:
- ---------

The KMenu is currently a rather untidy mess. It's very hard to find anything,
since there are long lists of programs in the sub-menus.

Suggested Solution:
- ------------------

The KMenu should be further split up into hierachial sub-menus under each of
the current main menu items (e.g. Application, Development, Editors). The
result of this would be to create an effect rather like the Games menu is
split up now; applications are split up into more clearly defined genres.

Suggestion Implementation of Solution:
- --------------------------

I suggest removing the Utilities menu. All of the applications would be better
listed elsewhere (see below).

I also suggest the addition of a PIM menu.

Some frequently used programs will be left directly under the current main
menu items.

Applications ->
	[Directly Under Application] (kcharselect, kcalc, kfloppy, kpasswd, ark,
	kaddressbook, etc)

Development ->
	Tools (e.g. Cervisia, Kompare, KBugBuster, KHexEdit, etc)
	Environments (Qt Designer, Quanta, KDevelop, etc)

Internet ->
	Tools (nmapfe, kppp, etc)
	Mail/News (Konqueror, KMail, Mozilla, etc)
	Instant Messenger (ksirc, kit, xchat, etc)

Multimedia ->
	Audio (xmms, kmidi, kscd, etc)
	Video (aktion, kwintv, real player, etc)
	Tools ( kmix, arts control, kmix v4lsetup, etc)
	[Directly under Multimedia] (noatun, kaboodle, etc)

Office ->
	KOffice (KWord, KSpread, etc)

System ->
	Administration (kljettool, kpackage, ksysv, etc))
	[Directly under System] (kpm, etc)

Of course I haven't listed all applications -- although hopefully this will
give you a flavour of the proposals.

I'd be happy to give further explanations if required.
