I was obviously wrong.  KDE cares for looks now, not efficiency.  I was 
operating under an optimistic delusion.  Reading www.kde.org has shown me 
my error: "KDE is a powerful Open Source graphical desktop environment for 
Unix workstations. It combines ease of use, contemporary functionality, 
and outstanding graphical design with the technological superiority of the 
Unix operating system."

I'll stick to functionality personally, though.
