would using something like openGL help?

i have been playing with OpenGL here for some time and noticed for 2D it is
very quick with rendering. You also get things like AA and alphablending,
for free... and if you get HW, it gets faster.

The box I was doing this on was a PPC 604e with anti-opengl acceleration
(dont ask :P), running XPmac. I was using SDL, but I do not think QT's
openGL stuff should be any slower/faster.

just 2c
