Well, standards exist to be followed.  If everyone makes an exception for 
themeselves, then it's no longer a standard.

Well, no, no reasonable upgrade path can exist when you use a centralized 
service such as AIM.  Client-side or server-side hacks do nothing to the 
inescapable fact that your use of AIM is entirely dependent on AOL's 
service.

The best, most sustainable upgrade path is one where you yourself begin to 
move away from centralized services and toward Jabber.  (Yeah yeah, you 
like me are waiting on a client to use for that.  Look for Light Hawk 0.1 
in the next 8 days, guaranteed)
