If you could find out why that is the case, then that would be more helpful, 
i. e. what KMail does different (for example using ethereal or tcpdump), 
then that would be more helpful, since I never saw an IMAP server, that 
copies mails over, when a folder is selected.
At least I'm not going to install Redhat, just to test that.

KMail only uses the EXAMINE command, as long as you don't want to change 
anything in a folder, could that be the problem?
