Sorry, thanks for your time. My bad habit of switching to root to compile
other people's applications from source got me in trouble. I wasn't familiar
with kbuildsycoca4, that it only affects the current user. So, using "su -"
rather than sudo meant I never ran kbuildsycoca4 on my own user account.
Works just fine now. I still see some output that I don't think should be
there, when starting from a terminal.
On the first run, even though it worked properly, I had the "qUncompress: Input
data is corrupted", "kdevelop: stream is bad :-( status= 2", and
"QFSFileEngine::map::Mapping a file beyond its size is not portable" messages.
These lines aren't occurring on subsequent runs. I didn't know if the
splashscreen loaded the first time or not, perhaps that's related?
I still get the lines "Undecodeable sequence: \001b(hex)[?1034h" on any starts.
