Hmm, it does work for me (with a couple of hitches). Can you manually check whether \
the gift is running? I.e. what does "ps aux | grep gift" say?

Also, can you try "contacting" the gift like that:

telnet localhost 12789
The latter is the default port that should be correct unless you manually specified a \
different one in the kcontrol module.

It should answer with:

Trying 127.0.0.1...
Connected to porti.
Escape character is '^]'.

Now enter

<mrml>
<get-collections/>
</mrml>

As soon as you hit return after the last line it should spit out some XML gibberish \
that lists your collections (i.e. the folder names that you indexed).

Regarding the crash, there is a suspicious line in the gdb output:
`system-supplied DSO at 0xffffe000' has disappeared; keeping its symbols.

Could it be that you upgraded something while you tried to get this running and \
removed a component that was in use?
