I have the same problem, but updating to 3.5.1 didn't help. With a newly "generated" \
user I have no problem. But if I rename my $HOME/.kde to something else and start \
kmail I have the same problems.

System: Gentoo Linux
KDE: 3.5.1
GCC: gcc (GCC) 3.4.4 (Gentoo 3.4.4-r1, ssp-3.4.4-1.0, pie-8.7.8)

If I start kmail in a shell I get this output:
% kmail

The backtrace isn't such useable (I think) because I have no debug symbols compiled \
in: (no debugging symbols found)

I recompile the packages now with debug.

Any information I can give ATM?
