Your DCOP setup is probably messed up. Do you have any stray DCOPserver processes \
around? You might want to log out of KDE, kill all DCOPserver processes and remove \
all DCOP socket files in ~/.kde and /tmp from a different virtual terminal, and \
restart KDE.

In technical terms, ksplash is unable to register itself with the DCOP server, and \
the usual cause of that is stray DCOP processes from previous KDE sessions.
