7. Problem description:

KDE 1.1.2 has been released, and it provides many new features and additions. From the press release:

KDE 1.1.2 includes the KDE Theme Manager, a new tool enabling users to
change their desktop theme -- ranging from colors and window
decorations to icons and sounds -- with a few simple mouse
clicks. This release includes hundreds of new high quality application
and tool bar icons, created by the very active KDE Artists Team, which
dramatically enhances the appearance of the desktop, the panel, and
various applications.

Further changes include:

     Significant enhancements and bugfixes to the KDE mail client (kmail);
     New translations -- KDE now supports up to 35 languages;
     Improved stability and HTML compatability in the KDE web browser
       and file manager (kfm);
     Numerous bugfixes in many other packages.

8. Solution:

You will need to uninstall the qt and qt-devel packages before you
begin, because they have been replaced by the qt1x packages. This
will enable co-existence in the future of Qt 1.x-based and Qt
2.x-based software.

rpm -e --nodeps qt qt-devel

Now install the new qt1x (and optionally qt1x-devel) packages.

Furthermore, some of the icons included in kdebase conflict with those
in fvwm2-icons. This has been fixed for the next release of Red Hat
Linux, but for users of Red Hat Linux 6.0, they will either have to
remove the fvwm2-icons package and other packages depending on it, or
force installation of kdebase (use the --force option for RPM).

Following this, you may upgrade the individual KDE packages that you
have installed. Please note that the original kdelibs package that
came with Red Hat Linux 6.0 has been split into a kdelibs and a
kdelibs-devel package. You only need kdelibs-devel if you wish to
compile your own KDE applications. Please also note that installation
of the "kdebase-lowcolor-icons" package will result in better looking
icons on 8 bit display cards; you do not need this package if you are
running X at 16 or 24 bpp.

For each RPM for your particular architecture, run:

rpm -Uvh <filename>

where filename is the name of the RPM.

9. Verification:

These packages are GPG signed by Red Hat Inc. for security. Our key
is available at:

http://www.redhat.com/corp/contact.html

You can verify each package with the following command:

rpm --checksig  <filename>

If you only wish to verify that each package has not been corrupted or
tampered with, examine only the md5sum with the following command:

rpm --checksig --nopgp <filename>
