i'm surprised that you find it useless; but if you really do want to 
be rid of it, use the kmenu > kde control center > applications > 
panel > configure. you may then select "hidden" for the taskbar. 
alternately, you can do kmenu > panel > configure, or click your rmb 
on an unoccupied place on the panel and choose "configure" from the 
resulting menu.
