IIRC this can do this by typing "make distclean" if you have a "Makefile"
prepared. This kind of make removes quite a bit of junk that may otherwise
confuse the system. Note: after a "make distclean" you will have to create the
"Makefile" again as well (using configure with appropriate arguments)
