You are correct. I was confused because my distrobution places a menu option with kdesu on the utilities menu. After I read you post I dug a little deeper and relized that it is just running a terminal (kvt) in supper user mode. My mistake. Thats what doesn't work. KDESU works from the command line.

I use konsole as well, however kdesu has nothing to do with terminals AFAIK.
It's a little program that executes a program with su -c"program" when you
type in the root password, letting you execute programs as root from the
menu etc without having to do a su in a terminal and start the program
yourself.
