Hello,
What I did was unpacking qt-2.0 into /usr/local/qt-2.00 and qt-1.44 into
/usr/local/qt-1.44. I set all the environment variables ($QTDIR and the
rest...) in my .bash_profile (b.a. shell). To build qt-1.44 I set a
symbolic link in /usr/local that pointed to qt-1.44 as qt (ln -s
/usr/local/qt-1.44 /usr/local/qt). After I was done I did the same for
qt-2.00 (I did the two build from a terminal not a console). Now re-link
qt to point to qt-1.44 to build kde-1.1.1. All applications now are
compiled by default against qt-1.44. To compile against qt-2.00, I set
some variables during the ./configure process or simply edit the Makefile.
To see what variables you can set during the config process, type
./configure --help where you will get something related to qt
bin/lib/include... Hope this helps!
