Hi,

I am using flexfax 3.2 which I compiled using gcc 2.5.8 on Microport
SVR4.02. I am using a Zoom modem, which has Rockwell firmware:
V.32AC/V1.000 TR14-Jxxx-001.

The flexfax demon successfully initializes the modem and dials a fax
machine I have here. However, it seems to die in the phase where it is
negotiating. If I turn on the speakers, it gets the carrier, the CD light
goes on, the modes starts chirping, then it cuts out, starts again, then
stops, and drops the line.

By default the modem negotiates an error correcting code, 256-character
maximum MNP block size, V42bis size 2048, two way compression. Do you have
any suggestions on things I might try to tweak in the modem settings or any
thing else I could try so that it will stay connected?

I have carefully read the trouble shooting and have tried it with
both RTSCTS and XONXOFF, changing both the modem settings and the value of
ModemFlowControl.

The output of "syslogd" is:

Aug 16 18:22:01.45: [20193]: SESSION BEGIN
Aug 16 18:22:01.56: [20193]: DIAL 4251919
Aug 16 18:22:01.56: [20193]: <-- [12:ATDT4251919@]
Aug 16 18:25:01.56: [20193]: SEND FAILED: Unknown problem (check modem power)
Aug 16 18:25:01.56: [20193]: <-- [4:ATH0]
Aug 16 18:25:06.56: [20193]: MODEM ERROR: <Timeout>
Aug 16 18:25:06.56: [20193]: SESSION END

I checked in the code and believe that the timeout occurs when the
ModemAnswerResponseTimeout variable is exceeded. I tried increasing it to
a huge number, but I still have the same problem. Do you have any
suggestions?

Thanks!

-don
