From talk I've seen of people more knowledgeable than I, parted has 
problems on sparc with some older Sun hard disks.  From what I understand, 
parted would mis-read the geometry on the disk and go with the values for 
pcylcount even though they were incorrect.  Not sure specifically which 
drives are effected.

Also sfdisk was reported to have problems.  Keep in mind these are second 
hand reports from a fairly decent source.  I have not had a chance to 
verify the reports (though the first one may be hard to do).

Additionally, the hfs patch in parted-1.6.10-r1 causes a build failure on 
sparc64 where the one in parted-1.6.10 works fine.

It looks like at least on sparc, which-ever partitioner is chosen (since 
fdisk doesn't seem like a good choice for automation), there will need to 
be work done on the sparc side of the house to make it happen.
