Maybe you can be interested in
# emerge -av dev-util/cpuinfo-collection
it will populate /usr/share/cpuinfo of static cpuinfo from an impressive 
number of processors.
This will not solve the problem of how to handle flags of Mplayer but 
may be usefull have it handly
