I'm considering trying them as I've not tried either for quite some
time. I've heard of swap issues or something with gnome 2 where it
consumes alot of memory. With kde I've also heard it has quirks. I'm
thinking about trying either or both but also using openbox inside
it(hence my last message asking about those that may of used openbox
instead of kwin).

When I do an emerge -p gnome that is quite the list I must say. Doesn't
tell me file sizes for me to guess at how large it actually is however.
With kde the list of packages was much smaller. But I do have a few
components of kde installed. I have gnome-pim installed and one or two
gnome programs along with gnome games. With kde I have kde utils and
kde games installed.

One last thing on a diffrent window manager tho. I have xfce installed.
I'm somewhat indiffrent to it. But I've kept it around simply because
I like it's light weight little file manager. Is it possible to somehow
install bits of xfce without the whole thing? So far in portage all I
can see is it gives me the full package. Unlike gnome and kde where
even not running them I can install parts of them and use them fine.

PS just for the heck of it pico/nano forever! j/k emacs was ok but I
never really got into LaTeX or vi.(actually correction I tried one of
them and couldn't figure how to get help or get out of the thing) To
each their own on editors tho.
