Greetings,
anyone have any idea why I'd be able to successfully create a gnome
session via startx but not via gdm?
Failsafe gnome runs under gdm but not a standard login . . . the
splashscreen comes up but then nothing else. After a brief pause gdm
restarts itself.
I am running the latest gnome gdm and xfree.
For startx to function I've created a .xinitrc:
# this is it
gnome-session
# end of .xinitrc
I created a dummy user with fresh user default config files and its no
go outside of failsafe mode.
The user .gnomerc-errors reads
------------------------------
** ERROR **: Failed to match any font. This could be due to a broken Xft
configuration, or if you run XFree 4.1.0 due to a bug in libXrender. For
more information about this, read
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=68030
aborting...
------------------------------
I am running a 4.2 xfree and have tried disabling XFt as suggested in
the post with no change.
