Absolutely.

I think part of the point is that it doesn't come up in a generic
"What's open and available on OSX" query. If someone is specifically
looking for bugs on that package, it will still come up even though
it's no longer ASSIGNED to ppc-macos. My reluctance to simply leave
it as ASSIGNED, without changing the assignment is that it is unclear
who is working on it. Having a person listed in the ASSIGNED field
gives people interested in a package someone to contact.

Absolutely. Generally I include the patches in the portage tree for
at least a few weeks before sending the patch upstream, just to make
sure it doesn't break anything. Of course, before committing it to
the tree, I have multiple people test it, including the package
maintainer, to be sure it doesn't adversely affect other Gentoo users
either. Needless to say, it hasn't been a problem for me *yet*. Since
we are moving to the overlay, I will include subsequent patches in
the overlay as well.

While this process is slow, it ensures QA, and I think that at this
point, good QA is more important than swift progress.
