Information Management
Software Development :: Libraries :: Ruby Modules
System :: Operating System :: Linux Distributions

About: The Amahi Home Server is a Linux Home Server based on Fedora (and
later on Ubuntu). Your machine becomes a "Home Digital Assistant" or HDA
after the installation. Each HDA is a Fedora-based server targeted for home
and home office environments. It provides an iTunes server, calendaring, a
wiki, shared network storage, network backups, a printer server, VPN, and a
plug-in architecture built on Ruby on Rails.

Changes: Included is a minor fix that makes the shares directories
group-owned by the 'users' group by default, which was the intention,
instead of being owned by the first user in the system.

[005] - Armadillo C++ Library 0.2.0
  by gtfjbl (http://freshmeat.net/users/gtfjbl/)
  Thu, Dec 11th 2008 13:31

Scientific/Engineering

About: The Armadillo C++ Library aims to provide an efficient base for
linear algebra operations (matrix and vector maths) while having a
straightforward and easy to use interface. Its intended target audience is
scientists and engineers. A delayed evaluation approach is employed (during
compile time) in order to combine several operations into one and reduce or
eliminate the need for temporaries. Where applicable, the order of
operations is optimized. Delayed evaluation and optimization are achieved
through recursive templates and template meta-programming.

Changes: More functionality, bugfixes, and improved user documentation.

System :: Archiving :: Backup
Utilities

About: Back In Time is a simple backup system for the GNOME desktop
inspired by the "flyback project" and "TimeVault". The backup is done by
taking snapshots of a specified set of directories. All you have to do is
configure: where to save snapshot, what directories to backup, and when a
backup should be done (manually, every hour, every day, every week, or
every month). It acts as a "user mode" backup system. This means that you
can backup and restore only folders to which you have write access.

Changes: This release adds drag and drop from
MainWindow:FileView/SnapshotsDialog to Nautilus. It updates the German
translation.

Information Management :: Document Repositories

About: Confluence is a professional Wiki designed to make it easy for a
team to share information. Its powerful editing and site management
features help teams communicate by sharing information, and collaborating
on documents and ideas, all in a single Web-based location. When teams use
Confluence for communication, it gets archived, indexed and interlinked, so
the whole team can benefit.

Changes: This release introduce the new Widget Connector, an easy way to
embed multi-media content from all over the Web directly into your page.
Add Youtube videos, Flickr slideshows, and Google Gadgets, just to name a
few. With the improved Office Connector, you can now view the contents of
attached files. Finding all your content is a lot easier. With Quick
Navigation, just start typing in the search box and immediately see
suggested results. And with 'Did You Mean', Confluence now suggests
corrections for misspelled words.

  Thu, Dec 11th 2008 13:56

Database :: Database Engines/Servers
Software Development :: Version Control

About: deltasql is a tool to synchronize databases with source code, which
helps to keep database evolution under control. While developing mid-sized
or big applications, developers make changes to the data model that go
along with changes to the source code. From time to time, branches of
source code are done to stabilize the code that will go to production. A
sort of data model branch is also needed. deltasql provides a simple way to
collect all scripts that change the data model and means to handle data
model branches. The deltasql server runs on Apache and is backed by MySQL.

Changes: This release closes major bugs concerning branch name handling
when the branch name has special characters. Documentation improvements
were made, including the addition of a Frequently Asked Question page.

[013] - dtangler 1.2.1
  by Kalou (http://freshmeat.net/users/olivierkaloudoff/)
  Thu, Dec 11th 2008 07:29

About: Dtangler is a tool that creates a set of rules that the dependency
structure of a software project must obey. Dependencies play a crucial role
in software development. A healthy dependency structure between components
has many benefits (software reuse, acceptance tests). These rules become a
configuration file for the command-line dtangler tool. Integrating itinto a
build script will make the build fail whenever a dependency rule is
violated. This way the feedback loop of creating a bad dependency is much
shorter. It supports cyclic dependency detection and implements Java
parsing, but can be extended to other languages.

Changes: This release requires Java 1.5.x or newer. Java 1.6.06 is
recommended for those running the GUI on Linux with the Compiz window
manager (e.g. Kubuntu) and desktop animations.

Internet

About: DynaStop is a utility to examine IPv4 based addresses for Exim and
procmail for the purpose of filtering based upon patterns defined by the
administrator. This can be a pivotal factor in email filtering and server
load management, since dynamic IP addresses are typically used for dial-up,
DHCP, and DSL accounts. All of which have a designated mail exchange server
through which all outbound mail flows as defined with many, if not most,
large Internet service providers.

Changes: The BleedingThreats, VirusList, and UnsubList example config

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries

About: fastcgi++ is a C++ library for developing Web applications in C++
with the FastCGI protocol. This library does not support the old CGI
protocol. It effectively manages simultaneous requests without the need for
multiple threads. Session data is organized into meaningful data types as
opposed to a series of text strings. Internationalization and Unicode
support is another priority. The library is templated to allow internal
wide character use, while converting down to UTF-8 upon transmission to the
client.

Changes: This release fixed a bug in parsing post data and a buffer

Software Development :: Testing

About: Linux Desktop Testing Project is aimed at producing a high quality
test automation framework and cutting-edge tools that can be used to test
the GNU desktop and improve it. It uses the "Accessibility" libraries to
poke through the application's user interface. The framework also has tools
to record test-cases based on user-selection on the application.

Changes: A new API and performance enhancements. The LDTP editor now
supports a configuration file for settings.

[030] - Lzip 1.2 (Stable)
  by Antonio Diaz Diaz (http://freshmeat.net/users/ant_diaz/)
  Thu, Dec 11th 2008 07:09

System :: Archiving :: Compression

About: Lzip is a lossless data compressor based on the LZMA algorithm,
with very safe integrity checking and a user interface almost identical to
the one of bzip2. Lzip decompresses almost as fast as gzip and compresses
better than bzip2, which makes it well suited for software distribution.

Changes: A 1-byte read outside allocated memory that could theoretically
produce a bad compressed file has been fixed. Dictionary size limit has
been reduced to 512MiB because setting it to 1GiB causes overflow of a
32-bit integer. Lzdiff and lzgrep have been added to the distribution.
"make install-info" should now work on Debian and OS X.

System :: Networking :: Monitoring
System :: Systems Administration

About: NetXMS is a monitoring system with a modular architecture. It can
be used for monitoring an entire IT infrastructure, starting with
SNMP-capable hardware (like switches and routers) and ending with
applications on servers. The system has a three-tier architecture; the
information is collected by monitoring agents (either its own agents or
SNMP agents) and delivered to the monitoring server for processing and
storing, where it can be accessed by using the management console. It
features centralized configuration and centralized agent upgrades.

Changes: Event forwarding between servers has been implemented. The log
monitoring subagent has been rewritten from scratch. Syslog monitoring has
been added. A Java API has been introduced. Most open issues in the bug
tracker have been resolved.

[044] - Thread Safe Template Library 1.2.2

  Thu, Dec 11th 2008 13:29

Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Operating System Kernels
System :: Operating System Kernels :: BSD

About: Thread Safe Template Library (TSTL) is a C++ library that provides
thread-safe storage data structures without global locking. It includes
classes for maps based on a non-binary extensible hashing tree for very
fast access, a pipe, a queue, a timercache, a limitcache, and a fast writer
multiple reader guard (or 'rwlock') without global locking (which uses the
atomic C++0x API based on the interlocked instruction set of the CPU). It's
useful for writing multi-threaded applications and operating system
components.

Changes: MS interlocked inline functions were replaced with an atomic API
(based on the C++0x draft document). Names in the library were lower-cased.
The queue template was replaced with a new variant with only one atomic
operation without global locking. The 'wmrg' template was renamed to
'rwlock'. All template definitions were moved to the 'tstl' namespace.

Desktop Environment :: Window Managers

About: wumwum is a window manager manager. The idea behind wumwum is to
turn any EWMH-compliant window manager into a tiling manager a la "ion"
or "awesome". wumwum works by using wmctrl, and adapts itself dynamically
to the active window manager. All functionality from the underlying window
manager is kept when under wumwum making it ideal for beginners.

Changes: e17 is now half working. Window sizes can now be changed
(non-even splitting). There is a bugfix for Windows resizing when switching
desktop. This release waits until a window manager is started. It's now
easy to add new commands. Window decorations on the side of a window are
