[001] - abcm2ps 5.1.1 (Development)
  by Guido Gonzato (http://freshmeat.net/users/goccia/)
  Mon, Oct 2nd 2006 10:35

Printing

About: abcm2ps is a package that converts music tunes from ABC format to
PostScript. Based on abc2ps version 1.2.5, it was developed mainly to
print baroque organ scores that have independant voices played on one or
more keyboards, and a pedal-board. It introduces many extensions to the
ABC language that make it suitable for classical music.

Changes: Several layout enhancements were made.

Education
Games/Entertainment :: Simulation
Scientific/Engineering

About: ACT-RBOT + MRS is a cognitive agent-based social simulation toolkit
(RBOT+MRS) and production system based on ACT-R for modelling single actor
cognitive experiments (RBOT) and multiple actors in a simulated (semiotic)
world (RBOT + MRS).

Changes: This release adds log4j properties, threadMonitor for database
threads, JProgressBar to give users more feedback on startup, a short
install manual, an installer for the Windows version, and installing
databases from the file menu. tl-netty has been replaced with Apache MINA
0.9.5. Session and Experiment ids are now generated by MySQL. Other
software libraries (jars) have been replaced with newer versions. Old
comments and code have been removed.

[004] - amavisd-new 2.4.3
  by Mark Martinec (http://freshmeat.net/users/mmartinec/)
  Mon, Oct 2nd 2006 14:27

Communications :: Email :: Filters

About: amavisd-new is a high-performance and reliable interface between
MTAs and one or more content checkers, including virus scanners, and/or
the Mail::SpamAssassin Perl module. It talks to an MTA via (E)SMTP or
LMTP, or by using helper programs. No timing gaps exist in the design,
which could cause a mail loss. It is normally positioned at or near a
central mailer, not necessarily where the user's mailboxes and final
delivery takes place.

Changes: This release polishes a few rough corners in compatibility with
DomainKeys and DKIM mail signing and verification. It fixes a bug in LMTP
code that failed to suppress some undesired bounces. It provides
compatibility with sa-update older than 3.1.5. The order of attributes in
AM.PDP protocol has been changed, and a new attribute is used to ensure
header fields are prepended instead of being appended in a milter setup.
Header checks are enhanced with checking for missing or duplicate header
fields. Inserting the spam score into a modified subject is possible. This
release allows for reducing bounces selectively by sending domain.

[005] - Are You Human? 0.1
  by fabsw (http://freshmeat.net/users/fabsw/)
  Mon, Oct 2nd 2006 10:49

Security
Software Development :: Libraries :: Python Modules

About: Are You Human? is a script that uses a graphical test to insure
that a human is being dealt with rather than a script. This is useful to
avoid automated Web signups or automated attempts to crack passwords.
There are many equivalent libraries for other languages but this is the
first one for Python. The Python Imaging Library (PIL) is required.

Changes: The package seems to work fine and there have been a lot of
downloads with no bug reports. Security is not 100% certain, however.

[006] - AXIGEN 1.2.6
  by Gecad Technologies (http://freshmeat.net/users/GecadTechnologies/)
  Mon, Oct 2nd 2006 14:19

Communications :: Email :: Filters
Communications :: Email :: Mail Transport Agents
Communications :: Email :: Mailing List Servers

About: AXIGEN is a fast, reliable and secure mail server with an open
architecture. It is designed for easy management and allows full control
of the email traffic from a central Web/CLI admin module. AXIGEN provides
ESMTP, IMAP, and POP3 services and has been tested with standard mail
clients. A special Webmail module enables email access and delivery from
Web browsers. During the evaluation period, users are provided with full
technical support.

Changes: Support for the AMAVIS Mail Scanner has been added, thus enabling
AXIGEN to integrate with all antivirus software that works with AMAVIS. The
AXIGEN Configuration Wizard has been added, a binary that provides a text
interface to perform the first steps in configuring AXIGEN. The binary is
available for all supported packages. In WebMail, the 'login' log message
now includes the domain name. Thus, when a user logs in, the axigen log
file entry also mentions the user's domain name; up to now, only the
username was written in the log file.

[007] - BalanceNG 1.645
  by Thomas Obermair (http://freshmeat.net/users/thomasobermair/)
  Mon, Oct 2nd 2006 10:19

Internet
Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: BalanceNG is a modern software IP load balancing solution. It is
small, fast, and easy to use and setup. It offers session persistence,
different distribution methods (Round Robin, Random, Hash, and Least
Resource) and a customizable UDP health check agent in source code. It
supports VRRP (Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol) to set up high
availability configurations on multiple nodes. It integrates pcap packet
dumping for debugging purposes and allows the implementation of a
"transparent forensic logging bridge".

Changes: The "sessiondlimit" parameter has been added, controlling the
maximum number of session table entries displayed with "show session". A
new command "sessiondump" allows dumping of all session table entries to a
file in readable text format for debugging and analysis purposes. The "show
session" command has been extended to allow lookup of session table entries
of a specific IP address. The manual has been updated to release 1.645.0.

[008] - Blossoc 1.0.6
  by Thomas Mailund (http://freshmeat.net/users/mailund_birc/)
  Mon, Oct 2nd 2006 14:08

Scientific/Engineering
Scientific/Engineering :: Bioinformatics
Scientific/Engineering :: Medical Science Apps.

About: Blossoc is a linkage disequilibrium association mapping tool that
attempts to build (perfect) genealogies for each site in the input, score
these according to non-random clustering of affected individuals, and
judge high-scoring areas as likely candidates for containing disease
affecting variation. Building the local genealogy trees is based on a
number of heuristics that are not guaranteed to build true trees, but have
the advantage over more sophisticated methods of being extremely fast.
Blossoc can therefore handle much larger data sets than more sophisticated
tools, but at the cost of sacrificing some accuracy.

Changes: This version adds a single-marker QTL mapping function plus a few
GUI improvements.

[009] - BMP 0.32.0
  by Milosz Derezynski (http://freshmeat.net/users/queuerunner/)
  Mon, Oct 2nd 2006 10:17

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players

About: BMP is a media player which provides a very easy-to-use interface
and usage semantics for all tasks, while having extensive standards and
services support under the hood (MusicBrainz, Last.fm radio/scrobbling,
HAL, DBus), yet keeping the details out of the way of the user.

Changes: Crashes related to the popup/tooltip when used as a tooltip only,
but with auto-tracknotifications disabled, were resolved. External tuning
to last.fm using Firefox, Flock, etc. with the shipped XPI package works
reliably now. The internal SQLite version was bumped to 3.3.7. Metadata
editing was improved workflow-wise, and various bugs (duplicate entries in
the albums list) are fixed. The built-in modified gstreamer HTTP client
source works correctly with libneon 0.26.x, and usage of RGBA colormaps
was fixed.

[010] - BytesFall Explorer 0.0.6
  by Ovidio (http://freshmeat.net/users/ovidio/)
  Mon, Oct 2nd 2006 12:00

Communications :: File Sharing
Desktop Environment :: File Managers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: BytesFall Explorer (bfExplorer for short) is a Web-based file
manager. It allows you to upload, download, view, edit, copy, move/rename,
and change permissions of a single file or directory or a group of files
and directories. It uses an SQL engine to store the users for
authentication. MySQL and PostgreSQL are currently supported.

Changes: The way of managing the filesystem has completely changed. It is
now possible to flexibly map several directories in a way that mimics the
functionality and power of the fstab file in Unix systems. The new
implementation also makes it possible to assign a home directory to each
user of the system.

  Mon, Oct 2nd 2006 18:47

Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)
Information Management :: Issue Tracking

About: Cerberus Helpdesk handles mission critical e-mail management for
over 13,072 companies worldwide. During normal workflow your experts are
constantly feeding solutions into a pool of community knowledge. When any
agent on your team is working on a customer issue, it will scan the
knowledge pool to determine if similar issues have been addressed in the
past. Any potentially helpful information is returned. Bayesian filtering
techniques are used to adapt to patterns found within your e-mail content.
This generates an 'interest factor' in various components of an email,
which gives a statistically-generated probability of being junk or not.

Changes: This release includes a security patch for Support Center URL
overloading. There are also several Safari browser fixes for Ajax/dynamic
functionality.

  Mon, Oct 2nd 2006 14:40

Documentation
Scientific/Engineering :: Artificial Intelligence
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics

About: Daikon is an implementation of dynamic detection of likely
invariants. An invariant is a property (such as "x=2*y+5" or
"this.next.prev = this" or "myarray is sorted by <") that holds at a
certain point or points in a program. Invariants are often seen in assert
statements, documentation, and formal specifications. Invariants can be
useful in program understanding and a host of other applications. Daikon
runs a program, observes the values that the program computes, and then
reports properties that were true over the observed executions. It can
detect properties in Java, C, C++, Perl, and IOA programs, in spreadsheet
files, and in other data sources.

Changes: Some enhancements and bugfixes were made. Programs with a large
number of variables are handled more efficiently. Several configuration
options were changed. PrintInvariants supports a new command line option.

Database
Database :: Front-Ends
Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: Dataface is a flexible and shapable skin that sits on top of MySQL,
making it accessible to every-day users. It automatically generates the
appropriate forms, lists, and menus for a user to interact with the
database without having to know any SQL. It is a full-featured Web
application framework, and gives developers the flexibility to customize
the features and behavior of their application via configuration files
(using the simple INI-file syntax), templates, and plug-ins. A generic
application with no customizations is completely functional, but the
developer is free to customize things at his leisure.

Changes: This release fixes a problem with the tree menu which occurred
when the dataface was located at a different domain than the application.
It adds support for the Yale CAS (Central Authentication Service) module.

  Mon, Oct 2nd 2006 10:20

Database
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search

About: DBSight is a J2EE search platform for rapidly developing search
engines on any relational database, for both beginners and experts. It's
scalable, easy to create, and fast to search. It features a built-in
database crawler following user-defined SQL, incremental indexing,
user-controllable result ranking, the ability to return results with
highlights (like Google), and categorized result counts (like Amazon). It
can easily integrate with a non-Java environment with XML/JSON. There is a
UI for all operations, so no Java coding is necessary.

Changes: MySQL crawling performance was greatly improved. Multi-server
clustering mode was improved with faster transferring speed and
write-ahead to ensure correctness. The analyzer is now consistent for
query parsing and content indexing. Index configuration files and template
files can be easily downloaded and uploaded.

  Mon, Oct 2nd 2006 10:38

Scientific/Engineering
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks

About: JPPF is a computational grid framework for Java focused on
performance and ease of use. It provides a set of tools and APIs to enable
the parallelization of CPU intensive applications, and distribute their
execution over a network of heterogenous nodes. It features platform
independence thanks to Java 1.5, does not require you to deploy your
application classes to a server, scales up to millions of nodes, has a
built-in fail-over mechanism on all the framework's components, and has a
monitoring and administration GUI tool to enable remote monitoring of the
server health and server shutdown/restart operations.

Changes: This release supports multiple servers in a peer-to-peer
topology, enabling it to scale to millions of nodes. Nodes can now be run
as Windows services. Many performance enhancements were made, making this
release faster and easier to use. Many bugfixes were made, resulting in

  Mon, Oct 2nd 2006 14:31

Software Development :: Embedded Systems
System :: Operating System :: Linux Distributions

About: JayOS is a live CD distro intended for use as a more secure mobile
environment. It integrates in-RAM filesystem encryption with plausible
deniability for a system that can be difficult to alter without
rebuilding. This offers a user with a high degree of data integrity; since
all filesystems are either static or encrypted, the system is resistant to
physical attacks. Features 2.6 kernel, unionfs, many network security and
filesystem tools, UML, and QEMU. It runs well on low-end x86 hardware, and
requires only 128MB RAM and a bootable CD drive to get started. There is
some PowerPC support. Also included is standard desktop software. It is
based on Linux From Scratch.

Changes: There is a bugfix to make usrram kernel parm work. This release
will correctly load /usr into RAM if "usrram" is passed as a boot option.

[041] - Legion of the Bouncy Castle Java Cryptography API 1.34
  by David Hook (http://freshmeat.net/users/davidhook/)
  Mon, Oct 2nd 2006 22:42

Security :: Cryptography
Software Development :: Libraries

About: The Legion of the Bouncy Castle Java Cryptography API provides a
lightweight cryptography API in Java, a provider for the JCE and JCA, a
clean-room implementation of the JCE 1.2.1, generators for Version 1 and
Version 3 X.509 certificates, generators for Version 2 X.509 attribute
certificates, PKCS12 support, and APIs for dealing with S/MIME, CMS, OCSP,
TSP, and OpenPGP. Versions are provided for the J2ME, and JDK 1.0-1.5.

Changes: This release removes vulnerabilities to some forms of the recent
forgery attack that has been described against specific implementations of
the RSA signature algorithm using a public exponent of the value 3. In
addition to the above, this release also adds use of the SHA2 family to
ECDSA for signatures and certificate generation. The range of KDF
functions has been increased and an endianness issue with KDF2 has been
fixed. Uses of toUpperCase in the library are now locale independent and
several bugs have also been fixed in the OpenPGP and SMIME libraries.

[042] - Libc-X 0.6
  by Geoffroy Cogniaux (http://freshmeat.net/users/gcogniaux/)
  Mon, Oct 2nd 2006 15:00

Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: Libc-X provides extentions to the standard C library implementing
useful and powerful data structures and functions. Its Unix name is libcx.
It is not a template layer. It’s made entirely with the C standard
language, compatible with C++, and portable (currently Linux and Windows).
All developed structures are designed to be used in stand-alone mode with
limited dependencies with other features of Libc-X. For example, you can
easily extract the header and the .c source of Hashtable and use it
outside Libc-X.

Changes: This release introduces the new header file libcx2 (also
understands libcx), which contains 44 routines to manage conversions
between enumerations, lists, double lists, vectors, and hash tables. Those
functions are placed here to keep the dependencies on other files as light
as possible, and maintain the spirit of the toolbox. This release
redesigns enumeration's implementation to work with conversions but keep
flexibility. Two bugs in list source files have been corrected.

About: NoMachine NX is a fast terminal server system based on the X11
protocol. In addition, NX also translates and embeds the MS Windows
Terminal Server and VNC protocols into X/NX. NX is an order of magnitude
faster than VNC or X11 and can run on bandwidth as narrow as 10 kBit/sec.
By embedding RDP and RFB, it enables users to compress and accelerate
remote Windows and VNC sessions. NX lets you work fluently even across
slow links like modems. The NX project provides a suite of libraries and
X11 proxying agents implementing efficient compression and optimized
transport of X11, SMB, IPP, HTTP, and arbitrary protocols like audio over
the  Internet.

Changes: The new server, besides consolidating the fixes sported by the
maintenance releases made on the 2.0 branch so far, solves a number of
problems such as a server hang on Ubuntu Dapper, icons in GNOME not being
shown when a X11 session is displayed by an Xgl accelerated X server, an
issue where the X11 agent may fail to retrieve the font path on some new
Linux distributions, an X11 Agent crash if it fails to create a virtual

[056] - PHP mySQL Database Wrapper Class 1.0.5
  by Stefan Gabos (http://freshmeat.net/users/stefangabos/)
  Mon, Oct 2nd 2006 10:21

Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: PHP mySQL Database Wrapper Class provides a set of methods for
interacting with a MySQL database easily and securely. Most of the methods
are extended versions of PHP's native functions, but providing a lot more
functionality and powerful debugging features. There are also new methods
that greatly simplify the process of executing specific queries like
returning specific rows or even single values from specific rows, SUM(),
COUNT(), and MAX() queries.

Changes: The variable passed to the watch() method was passed by reference
so that although you would make a watch for different states of a variable,
when outputting it in the debug window, the value of its last state was
shown. The insert_id() method was not returning correct values. These
issues have been fixed A new boolean property called "haltOnErrors" was
introduced. When this is set to TRUE, the execution of the script will be
halted upon fatal errors and the debug window will be shown (if the
"debug" property is set to TRUE).

About: Picard is a MusicBrainz tagging application. Its tagging concept is
album-oriented, as opposed to track-oriented like the classic MusicBrainz
tagger.

Changes: This release provided a better way to stop the local HTTP server,
fixing freezes on exit when using a proxy server. Dragging of directories
from Picard's browser to MB releases was fixed. File names containing '&'
are now displayed correctly in the status bar. The %country file naming
variable works again. Only the Unicode functions from gettext are used. If
the directory from the last session doesn't exist, the program now tries to
find the first existing one in the same path.

[058] - PortSensor 1.0 Release (Build 255)
  by Jeff Standen (http://freshmeat.net/users/jstanden/)
  Mon, Oct 2nd 2006 18:49

Desktop Environment
System :: Monitoring
System :: Networking :: Monitoring :: Hardware Watchdog

About: PortSensor is a powerful Windows/Unix server monitoring tool with
Linux/Mac/Windows clients. Sensors can be created to monitor nearly any
TCP/UDP service, such as: HTTP, FTP, POP3, SMTP, MySQL, and DNS. Custom
sensors can be created to monitor your other critical server metrics, such
as processor loads, mail queue loads, disk space usage, and log activity.

Changes: You can now delay a slower metric like Disk Space checking to
every 15-20 minutes, while CPU Load is checked every minute. You can
download new plugins and updates from inside PortSensor. The SSH library
provides terminal support. Memory leak issues with sensors and jobs have
been fixed. An SSH Delegate has been added to group multiple commands run
against the same server. To assist with installs using hundreds of
sensors, sensor batching with a configurable amount of concurrent sensors
to run has been implemented. Support for SNMP v1/v3 was added using
SNMP4J.

About: Protothreads are a type of extremely lightweight, stackless threads
written in 100% portable C. While protothreads were originally designed for
severely memory-constrained systems such as deeply embedded systems, they
have found a number of uses as a general purpose portable library as well.

Changes: PT_SCHEDULE() now returns true both when a protothread is waiting

that explains how protothreads may trigger a compiler bug and how to
prevent this from happening.

[061] - qmeterslib 0.3
  by gmbertani (http://freshmeat.net/users/gmbertani/)
  Mon, Oct 2nd 2006 10:22

About: The qmeterslib library provides a highly customizable Qt widget for
creating complex analog dial widgets. It supports multiple scales, multiple
needles, and customizable needles and backgrounds. It works as a
"container" QAnalogMeter widget that is initially empty. The developer
must create one or more instances of a scale (clock or sector) and one or
more instances of index/needle (clock, donut, pie). A demo application is
included.

Changes: Indexes and scales are not QWidgets anymore. Only QAnalogMeter
derives from QWidget. The meters now become visible immediately after
creation, with no need to call QAnalogMeters::updateAnalog() explicitly.

than non-spam. It is intended to be used in a procmail recipe to mark
email as being possible spam.

Changes: A new database backend called "list". New options to set the

[063] - recordMyDesktop 0.2.6
  by biocrasher (http://freshmeat.net/users/biocrasher/)
  Mon, Oct 2nd 2006 10:18

Multimedia :: Video :: Capture

About: recordMyDesktop is a program that captures audio and video data
from a Linux desktop session, producing an Ogg-encapsulated Theora-Vorbis
file. The main goal is to be as unobstrusive as possible by proccessing
only regions of the screen that have changed.

Changes: Behavior on stream desync has changed, so that dropping of sound
is no longer necessary. Theora return values are now properly checked to
avoid inserting corrupt packages into the stream. Major memory leaks have
been fixed. These were related to the rectangle insertion algorithm and
discarding of used sound buffers, which are now properly handled. The
reason for a segmentation fault occurring on seemingly random occasions
(related to the lack of thread safety over libogg calls) has been found,
so the problem should no longer appear.

  by Daniel Parker (http://freshmeat.net/users/danielaparker/)
  Mon, Oct 2nd 2006 10:16

Database
Text Processing :: Markup :: HTML/XHTML
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML

About: ServingXML is a markup language for expressing XML pipelines and an
extensible Java framework for defining the elements of the language. It
defines a vocabulary for expressing flat-XML, XML-flat, flat-flat, and
XML-XML transformations in pipelines. The accompanying console app
supports reading content as XML files, flat files, SQL queries, or SAX
events, and writing it as XML, HTML, PDF, or mail attachments. This
software is especially suited for converting flat file or database records
to XML, with its support for namespaces, variant record types, multi-valued
fields, segments and repeating groups, hierarchical grouping of records,
and row-by-row validation with XML Schema. There is also an API for
embedding the software in a Java application.

Changes: This release fixes two bugs: a problem with an array not growing
properly, and an issue with an FTP sink instruction. Custom flat file
signatures computed on the raw data of the file body are now supported.
The restrict record filter now allows handling of unmatched records, such
as discarding the record with an appropriate message. Record counts in
flat file trailers are now supported. Multiple record writers in record
streams are now supported.

Software Development
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: VRaptor 2 is a Web-based MVC and IOC framework based on many
frameworks and ideas (Seam, Stripes, Webwork, Hibernate Annotations, etc).
It makes full use of Java 5 Annotations. It favors convention over
configuration, because configuration in XML/properties/annotations is
always easy to make mistakes and repetitive (aka copy and paste in many
places). This framework uses a more imperative approach, instead of having
many XML files to configure lifecycle and other properties. Most of the
settings go inside plain Java objects (POJO), so the team knows exactly
what is going on and where.

Changes: This release comes with improved documentation, a lot of
bugfixes, and some new functions. A new interceptor stack is now available
that gives you the ability to group interceptors, shrinking your annotation
code. Localized double and float converters were added to make it easier to
code i18n applications. At the same time, a new plugin tutorial has been
added that explains how to create your own vraptor plugin. A lot of code
has been refactored, and more test cases were added in order to ensure
VRaptor's functionality for end users.
