[001] - 4Sports 0.0.2
  by Olaf (http://freshmeat.net/users/olafs/)
  Sun, Oct 1st 2006 04:33

Database :: Front-Ends
Utilities

About: 4Sports is an exercise management application. You can use it to
analyze your exercises in a number of ways. 4Sports can import data from
the Garmin "Forerunner 201/301" devices, and can display some information
in a table and in a graph (like heart rate over distance). It's also
possible to export the tracks (GPS data) into Google Earth, where the
track is color-coded according to your heart-rate. The graphs can be
exported to SVG files.

Changes: The program now generates and displays graphs. The ability to
export graphs as SVG files was added. Some bugfixes were made.

[002] - Aircrack-ng 0.6.2
  by Thomas d'Otreppe (http://freshmeat.net/users/aircrackng/)
  Sun, Oct 1st 2006 12:32

Security
System :: Monitoring
System :: Networking

About: aircrack-ng is a set of tools for auditing wireless networks. It's
an enhanced/reborn version of aircrack. It consists of airodump (an 802.11
packet capture program), aireplay (an 802.11 packet injection program),
aircrack (static WEP and WPA-PSK cracking), airdecap (decrypts WEP/WPA
capture files), and some tools to handle capture files (merge, convert,
etc.).

Changes: Mainly bugfixes. A new tool replaces arpforge-ng: packetforge-ng.
Now airodump-ng on Windows automatically downloads needed peek files, and
there's a basic GUI for Windows.

[003] - Ampache 3.3.2
  by Karl Vollmer (http://freshmeat.net/users/vollmerk/)
  Sun, Oct 1st 2006 16:19

Communications :: File Sharing
Information Management
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content

About: Ampache is a Web-based MP3/Ogg/RM/Flac/WMA/M4A manager. It allows
you to view, edit, and play your audio files via HTTP/IceCast/Mpd or
Moosic. It has support for downsampling, playlists, artist, and album
views, album art, random play, song play tracking, user themes, and remote
catalogs using XML-RPC.

Changes: This release includes a large number of misc bugfixes, as well as
a major change to templating as a result of a new theme created by ROS. All
old themes have been updated to the new format, but may still have visual
abnormalities. This version also introduces vastly improved ACLs allowing
better control of access to your server. There should also be a
performance increase due to some re-indexing of key tables.

Software Development :: Interpreters

About: Arena is a light-weight scripting language that features a C-like
syntax and library, automatic memory management, and runtime polymorphism.

Changes: This release fixes source file line number accounting for
multi-line string literals, and makes sure that the interpreter really
aborts after encountering a parse error.

[005] - aria2 0.8.1
  by SlotGazer (http://freshmeat.net/users/slotgazer/)
  Sun, Oct 1st 2006 12:30

Communications :: File Sharing
Internet :: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: aria2 is a utility for downloading files. It has completely new
design concept from its predecessor, Aria, and is written from scratch.
aria2 has a segmented downloading engine in its core. It can download one
file from multiple URLs or multiple connections from one URL. This results
in very high speed downloading, much faster than ordinary browsers. This
engine in was implemented in a single-thread model. The architecture is
clean and easy to extend. aria2 currently supports HTTP, FTP, and
BitTorrent. It also supports Metalink version 3.0.

Changes: This release adds non-compact tracker response support, fixes a
memory leak problem, and improves the calculation of download/upload
speed. A Unix man page for aria2c was also added. The minimum version
requirement of libxml2 was lowered to 2.6.24 in order to compile on Ubuntu
6.06.

[006] - AsItHappens 0.34
  by Mark Abrahams (http://freshmeat.net/users/markabrahams/)
  Sun, Oct 1st 2006 07:30

System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: AsItHappens is a real-time network statistics collector and
grapher. It collects data from devices over a network via ICMP and SNMP
and displays them on a graph, optionally storing collected data in a
database for later retrieval. Collection types include network response,
bandwidth usage, processor usage, memory usage, Cisco NBAR, and Cisco
NetFlow. AsItHappens polls data in regular intervals, which can be in the
order of milliseconds, to give immediate feedback on network performance.
AsItHappens can also graph flow information from packet capture files.

Changes: This release changes the units for some collection graphs to
milliseconds to allow more aggressive polling. It also adds a progress bar
and backgrounding of some intensive tasks that previously froze the GUI. It
fixes a crash due to the incorrect parsing of the graph top value in the
options dialog.

[008] - AutoGen 5.8.6
  by Bruce Korb (http://freshmeat.net/users/bkorb/)
  Sun, Oct 1st 2006 16:22

Other/Nonlisted Topic
Software Development
Software Development :: Build Tools

About: AutoGen is a tool designed for generating program files that
contain repetitive text with varied substitutions. Its goal is to simplify
the maintenance of programs that contain large amounts of repetitious text.
This is especially valuable if there are several blocks of such text that
must be kept synchronized. Output is specified with a Scheme-enhanced
output template. Input, if required by your template, may come from
AutoGen definitions, CGI data, or XML files.

Changes: AutoGen aliased pointers in a way that causes current GCC
compilers to mis-compile the code at optimization level -O2 and higher.
There were similar problems with the AutoOpts code and the code it
generates. This is now fixed.

  by Bruce Korb (http://freshmeat.net/users/bkorb/)
  Sun, Oct 1st 2006 16:23

Software Development
Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Libraries

About: AutoOpts is an integrated part of AutoGen. Based on a very simple
option description file, it will process configuration files, environment
variables, command line options, text strings passed by client programs,
and will make the results easily accessible to the client program. It will
also produce a man page and the info-doc invoking section automatically.

Changes: The library and generated code could not be optimized to -O2
correctly by GCC due to pointer aliasing. These aliases have been fixed in
a way that GCC can understand (using unions).

[012] - Blob Wars : Blob and Conquer 0.5
  by Scarfy (http://freshmeat.net/users/Scarfy/)
  Sun, Oct 1st 2006 01:42

Games/Entertainment :: Arcade

About: Blob Wars : Blob and Conquer is a 3rd person action shooter. With
the apparent defeat of Galdov and the reclaiming of the Fire, Time, Space,
and Reality Crystals, the Blobs' battle was only just beginning. Bob had
rescued many Blobs and fought many battles, but now he had an ever bigger
task ahead of him. The Blobs' homeworld is still littered with the alien
forces and Bob once again makes it his task to lead the counter attack.
But even without Galdov the aliens are still extremely well organised.

Changes: A mini game when other Blobs use specific switches was added.
Basic UV mappings were added to some models. An attempt was made to clip
decals to impact surfaces (but this may still be buggy). The mouse cursor
may now be controlled by keyboard or joystick. The Makefile now supports
"install" and "uninstall" targets. RPMs are available.

Office/Business :: Scheduling

About: Calcurse is a text-based personal organizer which helps keep track
of events and everyday tasks. It has a calendar and a "todo" list, and
puts your appointments in order. The user interface is configurable, and
you can choose between different color schemes and layouts. All of the
commands are documented within an online help system.

Changes: This release comes with several new important features. Among
them, todo priorities were added, and new screen layouts allow the todo
panel to become the largest one. A new '-n' flag is also implemented, with
which the user gets notified of their next appointment within 24 hours.
General key bindings were added too, which apply whatever panel is
selected. Finally, a notification bar indicates current date and time, the
calendar file in use, and the next upcoming appointment together with the
remaining time before it.

[020] - Common C++ RTP 1.5.0
  by David Sugar (http://freshmeat.net/users/davidsugar/)
  Sun, Oct 1st 2006 16:26

Multimedia
Software Development :: Libraries

About: Common C++ RTP is an experimental threadsafe RTP stack for use with
Common C++. It uses a service thread to both schedule outgoing packets and
organize arriving packets. Queued lists of packets are maintained both for
sending and receiving, and packet payloads can be mixed such as for passing
RTP telephony events. Recent builds of GNU ccRTP are also available for
building handheld softphone clients using Open Embedded.

Changes: Brand new support has been introduced for Secure RTP Profile
(srtp) as per RFC 3711. This release also supports a new add-on package,
libzrtpcpp, that directly offers native zfone (zrtp) compatible encryption
capabilities to Common C++ RTP based applications. This is the first
softphone client to use both Common C++ RTP srtp and zrtp support.

  by attila (http://freshmeat.net/users/attila/)
  Sun, Oct 1st 2006 01:10

Communications :: Chat :: Internet Relay Chat

About: Crackalaka is a small, standalone IRC server. It does not implement
the inter-server portions of the IRC protocol, and is meant for use by a
small workgroup, preferably behind a firewall.

Changes: The Plumber was implemented, which is an internal service used to
make connections of various kinds. Currently, it implements one new
feature: adding "--plumber default_channel=#lounge" to the command line
causes all newly registered clients to end up in #lounge. The ISON IRC
protocol command was also added, which makes JOIN behave more like that of
other IRC servers, and cleans up a number of other problems. A new
configure option allows for static linking. A stripped, statically linked
claka with the Plumber turned on is less than 250k.

[022] - CScout 2.2
  by Diomidis Spinellis (http://freshmeat.net/users/diomidis/)
  Sun, Oct 1st 2006 12:49

Software Development

About: CScout is a source code analyzer and refactoring browser for
collections of C programs. It can process workspaces of multiple projects,
mapping the complexity introduced by the C preprocessor back into the
original C source code files. CScout performs an analysis of C source code
that is more detailed and accurate than current compilers and linkers, as
it takes into account the identifier scopes introduced by the C
preprocessor and the C language proper scopes and namespaces.

Changes: This version contains more than 40 enhancements and bugfixes. It
now process the entire 2.6 Linux kernel. A new accompanying command can
automatically generate CScout processing scripts by monitoring a project's

[039] - InspIRCd 1.1.0 Beta 2 (Development)
  by Brain (http://freshmeat.net/users/braindigitalis/)
  Sun, Oct 1st 2006 12:43

Communications :: Chat :: Internet Relay Chat

About: InspIRCd is a modular C++ IRC Daemon for Linux, BSD, and Windows
systems created to provide a stable, modern, lightweight ircd from
scratch, and provide a vast number of features in a modularised form using
an advanced module API. By keeping the functionality of the main core to a
minimum, stability, speed, and customizability should be increased. It is
designed primarily to be a custom IRC server for the chatspike IRC
network. It has been written from scratch to avoid instability under heavy
load.

Changes: The beta period has started, with a surprisingly good beginning.
Some bugs were found, but most of the changes from beta1 to beta2 are
insignificant, or small features. One major improvement is the addition of
binary versioning to modules. A minor incompatibility with atheme trunk has
been rectified, and two possible crashes in server linking have been fixed.
So far 1.1 is looking very positive, and receives a strong recommendation
for use in production environments, or at the least, evaluation and
testing.

[059] - OpenSSH Heartbeat/Watchdog Patch 4.4p1
  by Hideaki Goto (http://freshmeat.net/users/hgot/)
  Sun, Oct 1st 2006 04:24

Internet
System :: Networking

About: OpenSSH Heartbeat/Watchdog Patch adds a heartbeat (keepalive)
function to ssh(1). If the output channel has been silent for more than a
specified time, a null message (SSH_MSG_IGNORE) is sent to the server as a
heartbeat. The heartbeat is useful for keeping connections over IP
masquerade/NAT boxes, firewalls, etc. This patch also adds a watchdog
timeout function to sshd(8). The combination of the heartbeat and the
watchdog timeout is very useful for detecting a link which is down over
unreliable connections such as a wireless network.

Changes: This version was adapted to OpenSSH 4.4p1. The documentation
patch has been incorporated.

About: PBButtons is a daemon to handle special hardware on the Apple
iBook/PowerBook/TiBook. It controls the display brightness, the sound
volume, mutes the sound, changes the trackpad mode, puts the machine to
sleep, or ejects the CDROM on command. It also provides basic power
management features. An included client gives the user visual feedback
about all actions with nice little popup windows.

Changes: This release has support for the new SysFS backlight interface
introduced with kernel 2.6.18. In this context, parts of the client API
were redesigned. Brightness values are transmitted as a percentage now
rather than in device-dependent units. The fading mechanism was redesigned
to become device independent. See the Changelog and manual pages for full
details. Client programmers should adapt their programs as soon as
possible. Please have also a look at the chapter "Kernel Configuration" in

[072] - prbeditor 0.9.6_1
  by eduardj (http://freshmeat.net/users/eduardj/)
  Sun, Oct 1st 2006 12:38

Text Processing :: Linguistic

About: prbeditor is an editor for Java property resource bundle files. The
application's intent is to help in the localization (l10n) of those
programs that have been internationalized with Java's standard i18n
mechanism. In contrast to other similar tools, it shows the keys and
values of several languages at the same time in a spreadsheet, giving a
global view of the resource files. The tool relies on the application of
regular expresions to organize the keys and filter the visibility of the
files. It includes a spell checker for several languages, based on word
lists which may be downloaded separately.

Changes: This release adds a new value-cell editor that is not restricted
to cell bounds and expands automatically to accommodate the entire cell
content. It adds an option to the table pop-up menu to remove selected
rows from the spell-checker and HTML converter. A scrolling hiccup when
scrolling the table right after selecting a cell has been fixed. This
release avoids unnecessary reads of CD-ROM drives and floppy disks.

[076] - Ragel State Machine Compiler 5.14
  by Adrian Thurston (http://freshmeat.net/users/age/)
  Sun, Oct 1st 2006 16:18

Software Development :: Code Generators

About: Ragel compiles finite state machines from regular languages into C,
C++, Objective-C, or D code. It allows the programmer to embed actions at
any point in a regular language, and to control non-determinism in the
resulting machines. It understands concatenation, union, kleene star,
subtraction, intersection, epsilon transitions, and various other common
operators. It also supports the construction of scanners and the building
of state machines using state charts. It can be used to create very fast
recognizers and parsers that are also robust.

Changes: A new minimization option was added and made the default. The
host language selection options were moved to the frontend program. Many
fixes were made to Java code generation. The alphabet type is now based on
the types of the host language, rather than being mapped to C types for all
languages. An error that prevented rlscan from compiling was fixed. The -p
option can now be used to print printable characters in GraphViz output.

[079] - Simple persistence for Java 1.3.5
  by Robert (http://freshmeat.net/users/demonofthesystem/)
  Sun, Oct 1st 2006 07:29

Database :: API
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: Simple persistence for Java is an object/relation mapping framework
for Java. It is designed to be easy to use. There are no XML files to
write, no tables to create, no IDs to generate, and no primary keys to
fiddle with; just point it to the database, check the API documentation
for three basic methods, and code away. It supports transactions,
polymorphism, has its own simple query language (very similar to SQL), and
can handle object references, lists, and maps.

Changes: Guarantees were added: selects now are guaranteed to return the
result list that is available at the exact moment of the query. This also
applies to historical selects. Result lists are guaranteed to stay the
same, no matter what updates were run after the query (without keeping the
whole result in memory). All transactions are now atomic: it is impossible
to query an inconsistent state. Objects are now locked during
transactions: there can be only one transaction that modifies a given
object at a given time.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search

About: SRESI is a smart bookmark manager. It currently sports both a
command-line and a PHP interface. It works with both the standard
hierarchical trees and the new and fashionable tagged bookmarks. It was
developed as a way to interface both representation systems. SRESI can use
Del.icio.us, Mozilla, Opera, and XBEL bookmarks, and handles a few more
exports besides. Directories and tags are used equivalently, and the final
hierarchies are inferred from actual tag use.

Changes: The tree-building algorithm uses hints a tad better: this is not
yet the definitive version, but it is getting closer. Alias management in
XBEL import was streamlined somewhat. The folder icon in the
HTML+Javascript export is now inlined in the CSS, so there is no need for
an external resource. Usage examples have been added to the documentation

Software Development
Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Debuggers

About: Ultimate++ is a cross-platform C++ rapid application development
suite. It includes set of libraries (for things like GUI and SQL) and an
integrated development environment. Rapid development is achieved by smart
and aggressive use of C++ rather than through fancy code generators. In
this respect, U++ competes with popular scripting languages while
preserving C/C++ runtime characteristics. Its integrated development
environment, TheIDE, introduces modular conception to C++ programming, and
can be used to develop non-U++ applications.

Terminals :: Terminal Emulators/X Terminals

About: The xterm program is the standard terminal emulator for the X
Window System. It provides DEC VT102/VT220 and Tektronix 4014 compatible
terminals for programs that can't use the window system directly. If the
underlying operating system supports terminal resizing capabilities (for

use the facilities to notify programs running in the window whenever it is
resized.

Changes: This release adds more key modifier descriptions to terminfo
entries. It improves performance for initializing 88/256-color palettes.
It fixes regular expression selection (end of line check). It fixes
initialization for Tek4014 (broken on QNX 6.1).

[103] - Yana 4 PHP Framework 2.8.2 (Development)
  by Tom (http://freshmeat.net/users/marcusson/)
  Sun, Oct 1st 2006 04:12

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: The Yana Framework is a component framework for developing PHP
applications. It can be expanded with your own plugins (components). It
includes skin and template support, multiple languages (German and English
by default), mature administration functionality, multiple installation
profiles, user login and administration, a database API based on PEAR-DB
that also offers database schema support, and a GUI/code generator for
your own plugins. It also includes an easy to use query tool that
automatically maps database commands to a flat file if no database support
is available. Plugins provided with this software are a guestbook, an RSS
to HTML converter, and a search engine. Complete (German) documentation
is included.

Changes: This version adds two new template functions. Plugin interfaces
are now available in the API documentation. Program errors, alerts, and
messages now appear inline on the current page rather than in their own
window. There is also a switch to go back to the old behavior if you want.
