[001] - Apache SpamAssassin 3.1.2
  by Theo Van Dinter (http://freshmeat.net/users/felicity/)
  Thu, May 25th 2006 21:42

Communications :: Email :: Filters
Software Development :: Libraries :: Perl Modules

About: Apache SpamAssassin is an extensible email filter that is used to
identify spam. Once identified, the mail can then be optionally tagged as
spam for later filtering. It provides a command line tool to perform
filtering, a client-server system to filter large volumes of mail, and
Mail::SpamAssassin, a set of Perl modules allowing Apache SpamAssassin to
be used in a wide variety of email systems.

Changes: DKIM support was added. Razor2 support was re-enabled by default.
A Perl bug which caused intermittent taint-related crashes was worked
around. Lots of other minor bugs were fixed.

Internet
Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: BalanceNG is a modern software IP load balancing solution. It is
small, fast, and easy to use and setup. It offers session persistence,
different distribution methods (Round Robin, Random, Hash, and Least
Resource) and a customizable UDP health check agent in source code. It
supports VRRP (Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol) to set up high
availability configurations on multiple nodes. It integrates pcap packet
dumping for debugging purposes and allows the implementation of a
"transparent forensic logging bridge".

Changes: Several plausibility checks have been added to make common
configuration errors impossible. The manual has been updated to release
1.550.0.

About: bib_errors can be used to intercept runtime errors of PHP scripts.
It registers a PHP error handler function that outputs the details about
the errors to a given log file. The errors can be displayed as part of the
current script output or sent to a given email address to let the site
administration or developer react promptly.

Changes: This release adds the "var_no_log" configuration parameter to
list the variables that will not be logged.

  by David Read (http://freshmeat.net/users/Monead/)
  Thu, May 25th 2006 04:26

Database
Software Development :: Testing
Utilities

About: FormatCheck is an application that screens flat files (fixed and
variable width) for violations in the format of the data. The input files
may contain one record type or a mixture of record formats, such as a file
containing header and detail records. It uses a set of XML files that
define the file formats that can be evaluated. Each XML file defines the
acceptable record layout(s) for one input format. The application supports
a record-related XML schema definition. This design makes updates and
additions to record definitions straightforward, requiring only an update
of the XML format definition.

Changes: Three sample flat file definitions are supplied along with three
sample data files that can be used to understand the operation of the
tool. The XSD for the Format Check schema is well documented, helping to
explain the options available for validating files. The project's Web site
also has a description of the program's operation.

[024] - HTML Include 0.20
  by Robert Lange (http://freshmeat.net/users/maddogII/)
  Thu, May 25th 2006 11:53

Text Processing :: Markup :: HTML/XHTML

About: HTML Include solves the problem that the Hypertext Markup Language
doesn't know a command for including other files into a source file. It
uses specially styled comments to refer to other files, which will be
inserted at this position. Unlike to the well known Server Side Include
mechanism, this tool pre-processes the HTML files, resulting in files that
have all referenced source files directly embedded. Thus it does not depend
on any Web-server for correct appearance. As a bonus, HTML Include also
writes the current date to the "last modification" line and brower meta,
which you usually forget (or do not bother) to update.

Changes: This release adds Current Date Replacement for both Custom Tag
and Browser Meta Line. Tags are now allowed to appear anywhere in the
text, not just on single lines. This release can process multiple input
files. The package has been autoconfiscated.

  by Robert Marmorstein (http://freshmeat.net/users/atomopawn/)
  Thu, May 25th 2006 02:18

System
System :: Networking :: Firewalls
System :: Systems Administration

About: ITVal is a decision-diagram based query engine for testing and
verifying iptables firewalls. Because firewalls can be very complicated,
it is often difficult to know whether your firewall is correctly
configured to protect against various attacks. ITVal allows the system
administrator to quickly and easily verify that the firewall setup
satisfies a set of security properties expressed as queries. Queries are
specified in a simple English-like language that is very easy to use.
Advanced firewall techniques, such as NAT and stateful filtering, are
supported.

Changes: This version introduced a new type of query called "CLASSES" that
partitions the set of all IP addresses into groups according to how the
firewall treats each host with that address. Some bugs were fixed and
support for address ranges both in queries and in group/service
definitions was added.

Database
Information Management :: Workflow Frameworks

About: Jitterbit is an integration tool for designing, configuring,
testing, and deploying integration solutions. It supports many document
types and most standards-based protocols, including XML, Web Services,
popular databases, text files, FTP, HTTP, and others. The integration
server runs on both Windows and Linux and is configured using a Java-based
user interface that is designed to make integration quick, easy, and
intuitive to complete. With the UI, users can define their integration
operations from start to finish: adding source and target systems, using
drag-and-drop mapping to transform data, setting schedules, creating
success/failure events, and tracking all of their deployed integration
operations.

Changes: The major addition to this version is the inclusion of
pre-defined integrations, called Jitterpaks. Jitterpaks are XML documents
that encapsulate all the parts of an integration operation, including the
source, target, document definitions, and data transformations. Users can
develop and publish Jitterpaks or import previously created Jitterpaks to
get a jump start in connecting a variety of applications, databases, and
other data points. Jitterpaks can be shared with the community on
Jitterbit's forums.

demand loading, shared copy-on-write executables, proper memory
management, and TCP/IP networking.

Changes: A remote DoS which was possible when using Netfilter to NAT SNMP
traffic (CVE-2006-2444) was fixed. Two fixes were made for a memleak and a
panic on corrupted ext3 journals. A few bugs concerning ARP entries which
never expire were fixed. Support for floppy-formatted USB sticks was
improved. A few other minor fixes were made. Patches are not PGP-signed.

[034] - madwifi 0.9.0
  by madwifi_org (http://freshmeat.net/users/madwifi_org/)
  Thu, May 25th 2006 04:25

About: Madwifi provides a Linux kernel device driver for Atheros-based
Wireless LAN devices. The driver presents the WLAN card as a normal
network interface. It includes support for Virtual APs, which makes it
possible to configure a single radio as several APs, and support for
multiple modes such as a station, ad-hoc, or monitor. The driver is
compatible with the Wireless Extensions API, which allows a Madwifi device
to be configured with common wireless tools (ifconfig, iwconfig, and
friends).

Changes: This release includes many new features, including support for
"VAPs" (Virtual APs). Virtual WLAN interfaces can serve multiple SSIDs
(APs) with just one card, or run an Access Point and a Client on the same
card (repeater setup). Other modes are also supported. Additoinal chipsets
and host architectures are now supported along with turbo mode,
compression, fast frames, adaptive rate (SuperAG), and WDS operation.

  Thu, May 25th 2006 11:39

About: Pinot is a metasearch tool built around the Xapian Information
Retrieval library, the language guessing functionality of libtextcat and
the GTKmm toolkit. It enables one to query search engines and display as
well as analyze and locally index the returned results. Supported sources
are search plugins, the Google SOAP API and Xapian indexes. Supported
document types include plain text, HTML, PDF, RTF, MS Word, XML,
OpenDocument/StarOffice, mbox, MP3, and Ogg Vorbis. Its goals are to make
Web search engines easily available to end users and to harness Xapian to
index the user's personal documents. Pinot is moving towards what Beagle
and Kat do, while still retaining a focus on metasearch.

Changes: File monitoring is now done with inotify instead of FAM/Gamin.
This lays the groundwork for the next release. UI-wise, several menu items
inconsistencies were fixed. All query terms are highlighted in the extract.
Threads (eg indexing results) that finish while the import dialog is up are
processed when the dialog box is closed. A bug preventing the user-provided

[056] - Simple persistence for Java 1.3.3
  by Robert (http://freshmeat.net/users/demonofthesystem/)
  Thu, May 25th 2006 02:28

Database :: API
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: Simple persistence for Java is an object/relation mapping framework
for Java. It is designed to be easy to use. There are no XML files to
write, no tables to create, no IDs to generate, and no primary keys to
fiddle with; just point it to the database, check the API documentation
for three basic methods, and code away. It supports transactions,
polymorphism, has its own simple query language (very similar to SQL), and
can handle object references, lists, and maps.

Changes: PersistenceId was made accessible and can now also be used in
queries, just like other member fields. Database reserved words now can be
used as class member field names. They will be renamed by the library
transparently. Apache Derby support was added.

About: Suite-C Web is a collection of modules for Drupal that allow a
church to manage itself and communicate with its memebers. It currently
consists of a PrayerRequests module, which lets Web site visitors submit
prayer requests and later mark requests as 'answered' (or no longer
relevant), which filters the request them from the list of current prayer
requests.

[058] - SVM-root-mirror 2006-05-25
  by Dan Stromberg (http://freshmeat.net/users/strombrg/)
  Thu, May 25th 2006 21:57

About: A script to mostly automate the process of setting up a Solaris
host with mirrored root using SVM.

Changes: The script can now mirror a pair of drives that aren't for the
system disk, for example, for user data or similar. Some as-yet-benign
shell quoting issues were fixed. A bugfix was made in the (optional)
partition exclusion code. A bug in the dup-label script detection code was
fixed.

[059] - sysstat 6.1.3
  by Sébastien Godard (http://freshmeat.net/users/godard/)
  Thu, May 25th 2006 04:34

System :: Monitoring
System :: Systems Administration

About: The sysstat package contains the sar, sadf, iostat and mpstat,
commands for Linux. The sar command collects and reports system activity
information. The sadf command may be used to display data collected by sar
in various formats (XML, database-friendly, etc.). The iostat command
reports CPU statistics and I/O statistics for tty devices and disks. The
mpstat command reports global and per-processor statistics. The
information collected by sar can be saved in a file in a binary format for
future inspection. The statistics reported by sar concern I/O transfer
rates, paging activity, process-related activites, interrupts, network
activity, memory and swap space utilization, CPU utilization, kernel
activities, and TTY statistics, among others. Both UP and SMP machines are
fully supported.

Changes: The -P option can now be used with sar even on SMP machines where
only one processor is available. A small bug inmpstat where explicitly
specifying processor 0 ("-P 0") could lead to incorrect output on UP
machines was fixed. A -D added option was added to sadf. This option
displays the contents of a data file in a database-friendly format with a
timestamp expressed in seconds from the epoch.

  Thu, May 25th 2006 02:27

Communications
Internet
Internet :: Proxy Servers

About: Tor is a network of virtual tunnels that allows people and groups
to improve their privacy and security on the Internet. It also enables
software developers to create new communication tools with built-in
privacy features. It provides the foundation for a range of applications
that allow organizations and individuals to share information over
public networks without compromising their privacy. Individuals can use
it to keep remote Websites from tracking them and their family members.
They can also use it to connect to resources such as news sites or
instant messaging services that are blocked by their local Internet
service providers (ISPs).

Changes: This release features some major security fixes, including entry
guards to protect the beginning of the circuit, exit enclaves to protect
the end, and better firewall support. A new directory protocol that
improves bandwidth use and keeps clients more up to date was implemented
along with two new directory authorities, a new ASCII-based controller
protocol that makes it easy to write applications to interact with Tor,
and many scalability and performance improvements.

[069] - wxRemind 0.6.0
  by Dan Graham (http://freshmeat.net/users/dgraham/)
  Thu, May 25th 2006 14:35

Information Management
Office/Business :: Scheduling

About: wxRemind is a wxPython-based front-end for Remind, a powerful
calendar and alarm application. Similar to the curses-based Wyrd, the
display features a calendar and daily event list suitable for visualizing
your schedule at a glance. Dates and associated events can be quickly
selected either with the mouse or cursor keys, and dates in the calendar
are color coded to reflect the total duration of scheduled events.
wxRemind integrates with an external editor of your choice to make editing
of reminder files more efficient, provides hotkeys to quickly access the
most common Remind options, and allows popup, sound, and/or spoken alarms.

Changes: This release adds a simple, internal editor as the default for
editing existing reminders. It opens the reminders file at the relevant
line, and highlights the line. The internal editor means that it is no
longer necessary to create ~/.wxremindrc if you're happy with the
defaults. Content has been added to the hints page. There are better
configuration startup checks and more informative error messages. "OK" has
been made the default button in various dialogs so that they close on
pressing ENTER.
