  Wed, Jan 4th 2006 10:24

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries :: Python Modules

About: Albatross is a small and flexible toolkit for developing highly
stateful Web applications. It provides browser-based sessions via
automatically-generated hidden form fields, server side sessions via a
session server or file-based session store, a powerful and extensible
templating system which promotes separation of presentation and
implementation for improved program maintainability, implicit handling for
pagination of sequences and tree browsing, template macros to allow
repeated HTML and special effects HTML to be defined in one location, and
lookup tables to translate Python values to arbitrary template code.
Applications can be deployed as either CGI programs or as mod_python
module with minor changes to program mainline. Custom deployment can be
achieved by developing your own Request class.

Changes: Important fixes to the NamespaceMixin's set_value() method.

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Capture/Recording
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio

About: The Advanced Linux Sound Architecture is composed of several parts.
The first is a fully modularized sound driver which supports module
autoloading, devfs, isapnp autoconfiguration, and gives complete access to
analog audio, digital audio, control, mixer, synthesizer, DSP, MIDI, and
timer components of audio hardware. It also includes a fully-featured
kernel-level sequencer, a full compatibility layer for OSS/Free
applications, an object-oriented C library which covers and enhances the
ALSA kernel driver functionality for applications (client/server, plugins,
PCM sharing/multiplexing, PCM metering, etc.), an interactive configuration
program for the driver, and some simple utilities for basic management.

Changes: Several minor bugs were fixed, notably in the CA0106 driver, in
the EMU10K1/EMU10K2 driver, in the ES1968 driver, and in the VIA82xx
driver.

[004] - arch revision control system 1.3.4 (tla Stable)
  by Andy Tai (http://freshmeat.net/users/atai/)
  Wed, Jan 4th 2006 14:29

Software Development
Software Development :: Version Control

About: arch is a modern replacement for CVS, specifically designed for the
distributed development needs of open source projects. It has uniquely good
support for development on branches (especially good merging tools),
distributed repositories (every developer can have branches in their own
repository), changeset-oriented project management (arch commits changes
to multiple files at once), and, of course, file and directory renaming.

Changes: This release makes no changes to the underlying infrastructure of
tla. The main changes are in the user interface, and the addition of
convenience commands: tla lint, tla add, tla branch, tla diff (on multiple
files and allowing diff options), tla export, tla switch, and tla tree-id
to improve the usability of tla. There is also a "basic mode" help message
to show just "basic" commands, useful for people new to tla. It is hoped
that tla is now more pleasant to use. Bugfixes from Debian have been
incorporated.

  Wed, Jan 4th 2006 13:54

Desktop Environment :: Gnome
Desktop Environment :: Tools
Software Development

About: BitRock InstallBuilder allows you to create easy-to-use installers
for Linux (x86/PPC), Windows, OS X, FreeBSD, Solaris (x86/Sparc), IRIX,

[011] - Cacti 0.8.6h (Development)
  by Ian Berry (http://freshmeat.net/users/raxnet/)
  Wed, Jan 4th 2006 13:56

System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: Cacti is a complete frontend to RRDTool. It stores all of the
necessary information to create graphs and populate them with data in a
MySQL database. The frontend is completely PHP driven. Along with being
able to maintain graphs, data sources, and round robin archives in a
database, Cacti also handles the data gathering. There is SNMP support for
those used to creating traffic graphs with MRTG.

Changes: This release has numerous bugfixes and some minor feature
additions. Most of the bugs that have been fixed are related to character
validation, the poller, and a few related to SNMP handling. Support for
both MySQL 5.x and IPv6 has been added. The 95th percentile functionality
has been extended to allow for arbitrary percentile calculations (Nth
percentile). In an effort to automate longer tasks, multiple command line
scripts have been added to help when managing Cacti from the command line.

  by Rusty Russell (http://freshmeat.net/users/rustyq/)
  Wed, Jan 4th 2006 17:53

Software Development :: Build Tools

About: The ccontrol program takes over the roles of the compiler and
linker, and reads a configuration file to decide what to do before
invoking them. This is particularly useful for centralized control over
commands and options, such as enabling distcc(1) and ccache(1).

Changes: This release fixes a bug where the config file wasn't reread if
it was a symlink and was changed (the most common configuration).

less popular audio formats. Playlists can be saved and loaded using .m3u
files (PLS version 2 can also be loaded). Internet streams (Shoutcast,
Icecast) are supported. It achieves gapless playback by employing an
output buffer in a separate thread and file pre-caching. The key mapping
can be fully customized. The interface can be detached from the server as
it plays in background.

Changes: A few memory leaks have been fixed. A workaround for the problem
with the backspace key on many terminals has been added. Problems with
compilation on OpenBSD have been fixed.

and fits in most MTA configurations. A key feature is the non-standard,
generic administration hierarchy which not only seperates "normal users"
from "administrators", but enables the mailserver-master to create
instances between them. You will be able to let other users create their
own sub-users and thus either share a single mail server between different
organizations or project your company's employee structure. It excels with
features such as regex addresses and folder ACL management.

About: rxvt-unicode is a clone of the well known terminal emulator rxvt,
modified to store text in Unicode (either UCS-2 or UCS-4) and to use
locale-correct input and output. It also supports mixing multiple fonts at
the same time, including Xft fonts.

Changes: Systems using openpty (most BSDs) had incorrect permissions on
the TTY. Other systems (such as GNU/Linux) were not affected. The meta8
option ("weird alt key behaviour") is no longer forcefully enabled. urxvt
now supports an embedded Perl interpreter (max urxvtperl), which can
already do useful things and will certainly be extended in the future.

About: Shade (Steganographically Hide and Analyze Data Entries) is a
versatile and feature-rich program that was designed to analyze and
manipulate LSBs (least significant bits) of files, attempting to either
hide or pluck out data. LSB manipulation is a form of steganography, the
art or science of making the existence of information undetectable by
normal means. This is achieved by writing the contents of a confidential
file to the LSBs of another harmless and inconspicuous host file.

About: SODE uses long Taylor series to solve systems of ordinary
differential equations. It generates code to solve the equations in either
Icon (or Unicon) or Maple. Using the Taylor series, estimates are made of
the location and order of poles. An effort is made to adjust H to control
the error. It has worked well in testing, but needs more testing as there
are so many possibilities. To solve STIFF equations, MAX_TERMS may be set.
Differentiation done automatically.

[101] - tenshi 0.4
  by Andrea Barisani (http://freshmeat.net/users/lcars/)
  Wed, Jan 4th 2006 11:45

System :: Monitoring

About: tenshi (formerly wasabi) is a log monitoring program designed to
watch a log file for lines matching user defined regular expressions and
report on the matches. The regular expressions are assigned to queues that
have an alert interval and a list of mail recipients. Queues can be set to
send a notification as soon as there is a log line assigned to them, or to
send periodic reports. Additionally, uninteresting fields in the log lines
(such as PID numbers) can be masked with the standard regular expression
grouping operators ( ). This allows cleaner and more readable reports. All
reports are separated by hostname and all messages are condensed when
possible.

Changes: This release adds uid and gid options for setting the effective
UID and GID, colorization of debugging messages, filter and filterargs
options for report pre-processing, a [pager:]mail_to syntax for sending
pager-friendly reports, a mailtimeout option, and fixes for tail and
tailargs being incorrectly treated as dynamic options.

About: Web Performance Trainer is a load testing and stress testing tool
for Web servers. Its statistical analysis takes your site's performance
criteria, and determines the number of users your Web site can handle.
Because data is collected at the URL level, it not only identifies slow

the problem. Web Performance Trainer includes hard-to-find features such
as IP spoofing, client certificates, multiple simultaneous test cases,
authentication, SSL recording and playback, automated analysis, and more.

Changes: This release fixes several bugs that would show up under heavy
load with large numbers of virtual users. A bug where cookies would be
occasionally misparsed by a load engine under heavy load has been fixed.
An intermittent bug where Trainer might fail with an internal error when
starting playback on a test with a significant number of fields configured
