[001] - Ant SVK Task 0.0.7
  by kama (http://freshmeat.net/users/kama/)
  Tue, Dec 6th 2005 05:30

Software Development :: Build Tools
Software Development :: Version Control
Software Development :: Version Control :: Subversion

About: The aim of Ant SVK Task is to create fully functional support for
the SVK SCM tool within Ant build files.

Changes: This version fixes a bug in the build file in which ${build.dir}
was used instead of ${dist.jar.classes.dir}, which caused no test to run.
The "svk mirror", "svk status", and "svk copy" commands were added. The
documentation was improved. An example build file (example.xml) was added.

About: bahcount is a utility that counts down the seconds left until noon,
January 20, 2009 in a small window. This is the expected date Bush will
cease being president of the USA. The program takes your timezone into
account and counts down according to EST. Various command line options are
available.

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation

About: Booh is a static Web-album generator. It takes one or several
series of photos and videos, and automatically builds static Web pages to
browse them, creating thumbnails, etc. It features automatic rotation of
portrait images, support for videos, preloading, sub-albums support,
themability, a powerful GUI for editing, and more.

Changes: Better support for panoramas in the thumbnails page. A password
protection feature. The possibility to display "made with" markup at the
bottom of pages. This release will try to use hard links when creating an
album including the "original" size of images or videos to save disk
space. The ability to display EXIF data. This release is fully XHTML
Transitional compliant. An sbs theme has been added, and a Debian package
is now available.

About: BIRT is a simple application that allows a large number of images
to be resized in one go. It was created in order to facilitate the
maintenance of an online photo album where each hi-res photo needs a
low-res copy and a  thumbnail.

[006] - ccbuild 1.5.2
  by A. Bram Neijt (http://freshmeat.net/users/bmm/)
  Tue, Dec 6th 2005 02:30

Software Development :: Build Tools

About: ccbuild is like a dynamic Makefile. ccbuild finds all programs in
the current directory (containing "int main") and builds them. For this,
it reads the C++ sources and looks at all local and global includes. All
C++ files surrounding local includes are considered objects for the main
program. The global includes lead to extra compiler arguments using a
configuration file. ccbuild splits these arguments for compilation and
linking, keeping the linking arguments back for later use. It should allow
development without any scripting and only simple reusable configuration.
Deployment and distribution should still be done with other tools. It can
create simple Makefiles, A-A-P files, and graph dependencies using DOT
(graphviz) graphs.

Changes: Because intermediate archiving was broken, it was made an
experimental option rather than a default. The loop can now be closed
using q and archiving is only performed when there are multiple objects.

[014] - Daikon 4.2.0
  by Jeff Perkins (http://freshmeat.net/users/jhpnez/)
  Tue, Dec 6th 2005 22:29

Documentation
Scientific/Engineering :: Artificial Intelligence
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics

About: Daikon is an implementation of dynamic detection of likely
invariants. An invariant is a property (such as "x=2*y+5" or
"this.next.prev = this" or "myarray is sorted by <") that holds at a
certain point or points in a program. Invariants are often seen in assert
statements, documentation, and formal specifications. Invariants can be
useful in program understanding and a host of other applications. Daikon
runs a program, observes the values that the program computes, and then
reports properties that were true over the observed executions. It can
detect properties in Java, C, C++, Perl, and IOA programs, in spreadsheet
files, and in other data sources.

Changes: Daikon's support for C and C++ has been substantially improved.
The Mangel-Wurzel C/C++ front end now runs on Windows, and it supports a
new option, --ignore-system-structs. The Kvasir C/C++ front end has
greatly improved support for C++, it supports a new pointer type coercion
feature, and it makes use of the new Fjalar dynamic instrumentation
framework. The Purity Analysis Kit can determine which methods of your
program are pure observer methods, and so can be treated as derived
variables.

System :: Archiving
System :: Archiving :: Backup

About: Dar is a shell command that makes backup of a directory tree and
files. Its features include splitting archives over several files, CDs,
ZIPs, or floppies, compression, full or differential backups, proper
saving and restoration of hard links and extended attributes, remote
backup using pipes and external command (such as ssh), and rearrangement
of the "slices" of an existing archive. It can now run commands between
slices, encrypt archives, and quickly retrieve individual files from
differential and full backups. Dar also has external GUI like kdar for
Linux, thanks to the well documented API.

Changes: Three proposed patches have been integrated into dar (for
HPNonStop portability, for the ru_RU.koi8-r locale, and for the "nodump"
feature on non-ext2 filesystems). A protection has been added for the
keyboard's arrow keys not being interpreted as escape keys.

Internet
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: Flightdeck-UI is a project that utilizes the ideas in the design of
aircraft controls and instruments for creating general purpose user
interfaces. The project includes Flightdeck-UI Online (a Web-based
dashboard that works entirely through the browser), the Multi-Variable
Monitor (MVM) application, and a Tkinter widget library. Flightdeck-UI
Online is installed on a Web server. Configuration files are simple Python
scripts; two examples are included with the distribution. The MVM
application provides a graphical editor with theme support for quickly
creating Flightdeck-UI control panels. Several such panels are included as
examples. It is not necessary to write code in order to use MVM. For those
wishing to do so, however, plug-in modules are very easy to develop.
Several such modules are provided in the distribution.

Changes: This is a re-release of the Flightdeck-UI Library under the LGPL.
Previously, it was licensed under the Open Light Software Inc. Open
License. This re-release allows the Flightdeck-UI Library to be used under
a standard, well-known license that is recognized by both the FSF and the
OSI. Note that this change affects the library only: Flightdeck-UI MVM and
Flightdeck-UI Online remain under the GPL, as before.

[039] - Karchiver 3.4.0-rc1 (KDE 3)
  by EC (http://freshmeat.net/users/coquelle/)
  Tue, Dec 6th 2005 11:01

Desktop Environment :: K Desktop Environment (KDE)
Utilities

About: kArchiver is a KDE utility made to ease working with compressed
files. With kArchiver, you can create tar.gz, tar.bz2, .zip, and other
files, and you can add, remove, or view one or more files with a
multiselection window. Its interface merges with konqueror, allowing you
to view and extract all of your archives within the file manager.
Right-clicking on an archive allows you to extract archives in background.
You can also convert files between .tar.gz and .tar.bz2. It also provides
an automatic splitter/unsplitter to fit a file onto a set of floppies, and
wizards that will help you step by step to compile and install software
through kArchiver's interface. It can act as a command line tool, useful
for creating and extracting archives without taking care of the
compressor's name and its options.

Changes: This release provides both important new features and bugfixes.
In addition to a better support for arj and lha archives, it is able to
create self-extracting archives. The GUI design has been enhanced,
especially the wizards (for converting a .tar.bz2 into a .zip, etc.), the
add and extract dialog (RegExp support), and the main window (some
animated icons). It supports very large archives (thousands of files).
Problems encountered when browsing archives by directories have been
solved.

  Tue, Dec 6th 2005 00:43

Database :: API

About: Kodo JDO allows you to write database calls using Java statements
instead of SQL statements, by supporting the Java Data Objects standard
for transparent persistence. It is the most complete implementation of the
JDO specification for relational data stores, and comes with tools for
producing a schema from an object model, producing class files from an
existing schema, and a performance pack (distributed caching and statement
batching) that improves performance by 15 - 30 times. It supports most
relational databases, application servers, and IDEs, and reduces the total
coding effort by 20-40%.

Changes: This release included improved integration with BEA Weblogic

System :: Logging
System :: Monitoring
System :: Systems Administration

About: MultiTail lets you view one or multiple files like the original
tail program. The difference is that it creates multiple windows on your
console (with ncurses). Merging of 2 or more log files is possible. It can
also use colors while displaying the log files (through regular
expressions) for faster recognition of what is important. It can also
filter lines (again with regular expressions). It has interactive menus
for editing given regular expressions and deleting and adding windows. One
can also have windows with the output of shell scripts and other software.
When viewing the output of external software, MultiTail can mimic the
functionality of tools like 'watch'.

Changes: When the 'o' (or 'O') is pressed in the main-menu, a window is
now cleared. Regular expression error-handling in the scrollback search
functionality was improved. Delimiters can now be multiple characters. A
memory leak in the strip code was fixed along with some issues with

About: MyDBO is a powerful object-oriented code generator for PHP/MySQL
Web application developers. It is designed to remove the hassle of
implementing familiar database operations (select, update, insert, etc)
over and over again when creating Web applications. It creates code for
accessing your database tables without you having to worry about
connections or SQL queries. It also allows you to approach your database
in an object-oriented fashion, thus giving you real flexibility. It uses
templates to generate code, so it is also possible to create your own
templates.

Changes: index.php has been changed to a standard index.html file so that
instructions can be read with no requirements. The PATH_SEPARATOR global
variable replaces ':' in instantAdmin include paths. A $where argument in
the constructor function of table collector classes. instantAdmin plug-in:
only truncated part of BLOB and TEXT fields are displayed in list views. A
third mode of generation called 'COPY'. Files are only copied over to the
destination directory without being scanned. The user interface has been

packet depending on which remote user has sent it. It can also set quality
of service on a per-user basis and log user activities into a SQL database.
Furthermore, it can use an external authentication source such as an LDAP
directory and be the key of a Single Sign On solution.

Changes: This is the first release of the new development branch. New
features include nutrackd (a daemon used to maintain SQL authenticated
connection tracking), modules chaining in nuauth, and UDP support for
libnuclient.

Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers

About: xsd is a W3C XML Schema to C++ translator. Provided with an XML
instance description (XML Schema), it generates C++ classes that represent
the given vocabulary as well as parsing and serialization code. Compared to
APIs such as DOM and SAX, the generated code allows you to access the
information in XML instance documents using your domain vocabulary instead
of generic elements, attributes, and text. Static typing helps catch errors
at compile-time rather than at run-time. It features C++ standard
library-based language mappings, configurable base character type
(char/wchar_t), platform-independent generated code, comprehensive
documentation, and more.

Changes: Basic support for xsd:union has been implemented. Parsing and
serialization error handling has been generalized. A comprehensive
C++/tree mapping user manual has been added.
