Communications :: Chat
Communications :: Conferencing
Communications :: Internet Phone

About: ++Skype is a C++ library for skype add-on platform independent
software development. It is platform independent, easy to use, and easy to
extend because of the flexible library design, inspired by modern C++
design ideas. Performance is one of the goals: only compile-time
polymorphism is used. The library license allows you to develop freely
redistributed applications without any fee.

About: Advanced Stock Tracking System (AST) is a Web-based application for
keeping track of stocks. It features a portfolio with dividend tracking, a
worksheet to keep track of prospects, a stock comparison utility, and a
search engine for the stock market based heavily on technical analysis.

Changes: This release adds RSS integration, and uses libcurl for
downloads. There are minor fixes.

Text Processing
Text Processing :: Markup

About: AFT (Almost Free Text) is a document preparation system. It is
mostly free form, meaning that there is little intrusive markup; AFT
source documents look a lot like plain old ASCII text. It has a few rules
for structuring your document, more to do with formatting your text than
embedding lots of commands, and it produces all types of output (HTML,
XHTML, LaTeX, roll-your-own XML, etc.). All that needs to be done is to
edit a rule file. You can even customize your own rule files for
specialized output.

Changes: The historical hack of using \\ to produce a line break was
removed. It has been replaced with an internally used LineBreak element.
Also, the behavior of line continuations in verbatim mode was modified.
They are now ignored, as they should be.

About: Agenda Displayer is a PHP class that displays a user-friendly
agenda that lets you easily manage borrowed items. It displays a nice
calendar of the month with the borrowed items hightlighted in red with the
name of the borrower in it. It's possible to switch quickly from one month
to another. Its adminstration page lets you delete bad entries, add new
items to borrow, and change variables for the final display.

System :: Networking
System :: Systems Administration

About: The goal of the Anemon DHCP project is to create an implementation
of the DHCP protocol and surrounding software to facilitate network
management. The project is divided into four components: a DHCP server, a
DHCP client, a DHCP relay, and the Anemon Web Center, a Web-based
management interface to the Anemon DHCP server and MyDNS.

Changes: This release adds the (forgotten) fundamental Python module to
the repository. The sqlobject versions of anemon server and webcenter are
now runnable.

and albums. It stores all its images in a database, making it both fast and
flexible. Ansel is similar in spirit to Shutterfly and Yahoo pictures, but
does not place restrictions on image size.

Changes: Security was improved by removing the requirement for PHP's
register_globals setting. Minor features including a more dynamic gallery
home page were added.

  by Guillaume Cottenceau (http://freshmeat.net/users/gcottenc/)
  Tue, Sep 27th 2005 22:38

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation

About: Booh is a static Web-album generator. It takes one or several
series of photos and videos, and automatically builds static Web pages to
browse them, creating thumbnails, etc. It features automatic rotation of
portrait images, support for videos, preloading, sub-albums support,
themability, a powerful GUI for editing, and more.

Changes: Invasive automatic scrolling when clicking in menu was fixed.
Some broken XPath's were fixed. A problem in which the slideshow pause was
always the default value when entering slideshow mode directly from the
thumbnails page was fixed. The config is checked at bootup, and missing
stuff is reported. Working without "identify" or without
"transcode"/"mencoder" is now supported. "identify" is used to discover
EXIF orientation rather than the "exif" external binary. A clickable URL
was added to view the album more easily. The ability to merge new
subalbums down a particular subalbum was added.

  Tue, Sep 27th 2005 14:29

Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Installation/Setup

About: Conary is a distributed software management system for Linux
distributions. It replaces traditional package management solutions (such
as RPM and dpkg) with one designed to enable loose collaboration across
the Internet. It enables sets of distributed and loosely connected
repositories to define the components which are installed on a Linux
system. Rather than having a full distribution come from a single vendor,
it allows administrators and developers to branch a distribution, keeping
the pieces which fit their environment while grabbing components from
other repositories across the Internet.

Changes: Most of the changes involve packaging: redirects can now redirect
to nothing, soname dependencies are only provided for system shared library
directories, and automated build requirement discovery has been
significantly enhanced.

[022] - Felix Programming Language 1.1.1
  by skaller (http://freshmeat.net/users/skaller/)
  Tue, Sep 27th 2005 10:40

Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Interpreters

About: Felix is a programming language with a fully featured purely
functional subsystem embedded in a a traditional Algol-like imperative
programming system. The system features garbage collection, static typing,
parametric polymorphism, overloading, regular expression matching, and a
lot more. A scripting harness is used to invoke source files, but fully
compiled binary shared libraries are generated, yielding both rapid
prototyping and high performance. Seamless binding of C/C++ code makes
interfacing existing libraries easy. Control inversion provides
language-level cooperative multi-tasking.

Changes: This version includes a complete rewrite of the configuration
system to support two stage cross compilation modelling. The source now
builds out of the box on Linux, OSX, Cygwin, MinGW, and Win32. A Debian
package is now available in the Debian archive. There are miscellaneous
extensions to the standard library, significant performance improvements,
enhancement of the code quotation mechanism, more C code annotations, and
improvements to the type system. The Web site now boasts a wiki and
display of graphs comparing performance.

interface which executes completely in user mode. The screenshot shows the
DOpE real-time windowing environment running on top of Fiasco, with an
instance of L4Linux running in one of the windows.

Changes: Since the last release, Fiasco has significantly matured and is
now thought to be the most stable version available. Highlights of this
release are the integration of scheduling extensions targeted at real-time
applications, better support for paravirtualized systems, as well as
numerous bug fixes. The Fiasco kernel currently runs on the x86 and
Linux/x86 platforms (UX) as well as various ARM platforms. All platform
implementations are believed to be equally stable.

About: Freecycle is a beat slicer providing amplitude domain and frequency
domain beat matching and zero crossing algorithms. It exports sliced audio
chunks and generates a MIDI file which can be used to play the sliced
loop. Alternatively, you can jam with it as soon as you've made slices
using a MIDI keyboard or sequencer. Freecycle also exports AKAI
S5000/S6000/Z4/Z8 .AKP files to be used with your favorite sampler,
SoundFont files, and supports slice drag and drop from the application to
the desktop. It can process the audio inline using LADSPA effects, as well
as applying envelopes to seperate slices.

Changes: Freecycle now depends only on libsndfile, fftw3, and Qt. All the
other dependencies are optional. Some optimizations and bugfixes were also
made.

  Tue, Sep 27th 2005 14:37

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
System :: Archiving

About: GoldenPod is a podcast client (or podcast aggregator, or
podcatcher) written in Perl. It supports reading configuration files in
~/.goldenpod/ and then saving the podcasts to the directory defined there.
It also supports just getting thrown into a directory where BashPodder used
to be and replacing it automagically, or having its config files in the
same directory as itself and then just being run from a random location
and detecting and performing a chdir correctly.

Changes: Some minor changes to a few messages. An Ignore Pattern function
has been added. GoldenPod will neither download nor --copy files matching
the pattern (the pattern can be supplied both as a command line option and
in the configuration file). The short options for some command line options
have been changed (--copy is now -c, not -p; --files is now -n, not -i).
The --nocat option has been removed.

  Tue, Sep 27th 2005 07:17

Multimedia :: Graphics
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation
Scientific/Engineering

About: JGraph is a free, mature, and robust Java Graphing framework that
fully complies with Swing design principles. It contains all the graph
visualization and interaction functionality you might expect in a graph
library, including multiple views, layering, zoom, drag and drop, undo,
automatic expanding and collapsing, routing, and layouts. You can create
stunning workflow editors, call graphs, CAD tools, network diagrams,
database visualization tools, and more. It can also be deployed on the
server-side with a large range of image exporting functionality. It is
fully documented and commercially supported.

Changes: This release focuses on a number of issues relating to using
JGraph in a headless environment. These changes enables greater use of
JGraph as a server-side only tool and prepares for a planned branch of a
"JSPGraph" version. Various bugfixes and helper methods were added
relating to this area. It is now possible to have combined insert, remove,
and edit actions in a single activity. Lastly, a switch was added to
disable port magic, the process that moves ports along vertex perimeters
to automatically straighten edges.

[034] - Klementine 0.11BLD17
  by Mathias-H. Weber (http://freshmeat.net/users/MathiasWeber/)
  Tue, Sep 27th 2005 14:33

About: Klementine is a Java program for remote mail retrieval, filtering,
and forwarding. Regular expressions can be applied to the mail header
fields and thus characterize the messages as spam or ham. Identified spam
will be deleted directly on the server. It is most useful for people
retrieving their mail through dialup connections. It features retrieval
from both POP3 servers and IMAP servers, and supports delivery to SMTP
servers or STDOUT. Address information to build white lists can be
retrieved from LDAP servers.

Changes: Email messages that do not match any rule can be postponed for
the next run. Postponed messages of the last run can be deleted in the
subsequent run if the user identified them as spam. Download has been sped
up considerably by immediately retrieving messages from the server and
storing them in a buffer on the local disk. Special care has been taken to
ensure that no mail will be lost even if the machine crashes while
downloading. Many bugfixes have been applied.

[035] - LILO 22.7.2-beta2 (Beta)
  by John Coffman (http://freshmeat.net/users/johncoffman/)
  Tue, Sep 27th 2005 14:31

System :: Boot

About: LILO is a Boot loader for Linux/x86 and other PC operating systems.
It is responsible for loading your Linux kernel from either a floppy or a
hard drive and passing control to it. It is capable of booting beyond
cylinder 1024 of a hard disk if the BIOS supports EDD packet call
extensions to the int 0x13 interface. LILO can also be used to boot many
other operating systems, including DOS, Windows (all versions), OS/2, and
the BSD variants. The LILO distribution includes full source,
documentation and support files.

Changes: Supports the Enhanced Multi-Disk (RAID) driver, which is still
new to the 2.6 kernel. Drives underlying a full-disk RAID-1 (/dev/md_dXX)
array are automatically taken to be "inaccessible" to avoid Volume ID
conflicts. This action may be suppressed with the keyword "noraid". A
command line switch (-H) allows installation of a boot loader on a
degraded RAID-1 (/dev/mdXX) array. See the updated man pages for 'lilo'
and 'lilo.conf' for additional information.

[042] - Port Scan Attack Detector 1.4.3
  by Michael Rash (http://freshmeat.net/users/michaelrash/)
  Tue, Sep 27th 2005 07:40

System :: Networking :: Firewalls
System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: The Port Scan Attack Detector (psad) is a collection of three
system daemons that are designed to work with the Linux Netfilter
firewalling code to detect port scans and other suspect traffic. It
features a set of highly configurable danger thresholds (with sensible
defaults), verbose alert messages, email alerting, DShield reporting, and
automatic blocking of offending IP addresses. Psad incorporates many of
the packet signatures included in Snort to detect various kinds of
suspicious scans, and implements the same passive OS fingerprinting
algorithm used by p0f.

Changes: Bugfixes were made for auto-blocking code. Timeouts should be
handled properly, including cached IP addresses in the
auto_blocked_iptables file that are referenced upon psad startup.
Communication with the running psad is performed over a Unix domain socket
in --fw-block mode. A bugfix was made to seek to the end of the fwdata file
instead of reading the entire thing into memory and then looking for newly
written log messages. The psad auto-reponse Netfilter chains are
automatically flushed at start time.

  by Rainer Gerhards (http://freshmeat.net/users/rgerhards/)
  Tue, Sep 27th 2005 10:39

System :: Logging

About: Rsyslog is an enhanced syslogd. Among other features, it offers
support for reliable syslog over TCP, writing to MySQL databases, fully
configurable output formats (including great timestamps), and the ability
to filter on any part of the syslog message. It is designed as a drop-in
replacement for stock syslogd and thus able to work with the same config
file syntax. Of course, some enhanced features require changing the config
file, but in general, this should be fairly easy.

Changes: This release supports sender limitation, where messages only from
configured hosts are accepted. Separate permitted sender lists can be
defined for UDP and TCP syslog. This release also includes new comparison
operations for property-based filters. There are some other minor

[052] - Socketpipe 1.7
  by Diomidis Spinellis (http://freshmeat.net/users/diomidis/)
  Tue, Sep 27th 2005 05:06

Internet
System :: Networking
Utilities

About: Socketpipe directly connects the input/output of a remote process
with local programs over a TCP/IP socket. Although the initial
communication setup is performed through client-server intermediaries
such as SSH or RSH, the communication channel that socketpipe establishes
is a direct socket connection between the local and the remote processes,
similar to a local pipe. The use of socketpipe removes the inefficiency of
multiple data copies and context switches through RSH/SSH, and can in many
cases offer dramatic throughput improvements.

Changes: This version makes available an implementation that implements
client and server functionality under Microsoft Windows. The Windows
implementation interoperates with the original Unix one, allowing the
efficient transfer of data between Unix and Windows hosts.

[053] - SPMS/syspatch 0.5
  by LEM (http://freshmeat.net/users/olem/)
  Tue, Sep 27th 2005 14:31

System :: Software Distribution
System :: Systems Administration

About: SPMS and syspatch are a useful tools to apply OpenBSD patches to a
collection of OpenBSD hosts where you don't want to have a compiler and
the src hierarchy, nor spend the time needed to compile some sources. SPMS
and syspatch are designed for admins who have more than one OpenBSD box to
administer, who work in teams, and don't want to spend time on repetitive
tasks. In case of trouble, you can revert on an applied patch. It will not
mask the process of OpenBSD patching, since you still have to build errata
on a buildhost and understand what is patched.

Changes: Can now verify the signature of SPMS packages (using X509.v3
certs or SSH Identity keyfiles) using gzsig (part of the base set of
OpenBSD 3.8). Some additional code cleanup.
