[001] - AntiRight Desktop Environment 2.12
  by Jeffrey Bedard (http://freshmeat.net/users/jefbed/)
  Mon, Sep 26th 2005 23:54

Desktop Environment
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Playing
Office/Business

About: AntiRight is a lightweight and scripted desktop environment. The
arshell utility is used to interface the X toolkit in use with the shell,
thus allowing X applications to be written with shell scripts. A sample
implementation script, ACE, serves as the definition of the AntiRight
Desktop Environment, and all necessary desktop environment utilities are
implemented therein.

Changes: Unnecessary or redundant components were removed. The
documentation was updated and a Debian panel was added to ACE.

[002] - Automated Argument Helper 1.0
  by Scott McKellar (http://freshmeat.net/users/mck9/)
  Mon, Sep 26th 2005 23:54

About: Aargh is a code generator written in C++. Based on specifications
defined in an XML file, it generates C++ code to parse a command line,
using the getopt() facility available in Unix, Linux, and similar
environments. It supports command line options with integer arguments,
string arguments, and no arguments. It optionally applies range tests to
validate the option arguments, or calls a user-defined validation
function. The generated code is commented and carefully indented for
readability.

Information Management
Multimedia :: Graphics
Office/Business :: Financial :: Point-Of-Sale

About: Barcode Writer in Pure Postscript implements the printing of many
barcode formats entirely within level 2 PostScript, so that the process of
converting the input string into the printed output is performed by the
printer itself. This avoids the need to re-implement the barcode
generation process whenever your language needs change. The project
supports most major barcode formats including EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, UPC-E,
ISBN, Code 128 (A, B, and C), Code 39, Interleaved 2 of 5, Postnet, Code 2
of 5, and Codabar.

Changes: A new encoder was added to support the generation of
miscellaneous symbols. Support for the generation of FIM symbols used on
US Postal service reply mail was added.

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation
Software Development :: Libraries

About: The Big Faceless Graph Library is a Java class library for creating
graphs and charts. It is backed by a full 3D engine, allowing you to create
shaded 3D pie, bar, and line graphs as GIF, PDF, PNG, or other image
formats. Its features include transparent backgrounds, extensible axes to
graph dates, currencies, custom fonts, and spline curve fitting. It is
small, fast, and easy to use.

Changes: This release adds the getProportion() method to PieGraph to allow
easy displaying of percentages on slices. It adds TextStyle.ROTATE_AUTO to
rotate labels on PieGraph data to match their slices.

(http://freshmeat.net/users/faceless/)
  Mon, Sep 26th 2005 11:48

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation
Office/Business

About: The Big Faceless PDF Library is a Java class library for creating
PDF documents. The Extended Edition offers the ability to create and edit
AcroForms, PDF's answer to the HTML form. Like HTML forms, PDF forms can
contain text boxes, radio buttons, and can call JavaScript functions. The
Extended Edition also includes a PDF reader for importing and editing,
along with FDF support and verification for Digital Signatures. Both
variations offer full Unicode support, encryption, embedded TrueType and
Type1 fonts, barcodes, hyperlinks, spot and calibrated color. Advanced
text layout engine enables complex HTML styles. It is small, fast, easy to
use, and 100% pure Java.

Changes: The AnnotationFile class previously handled all the details of
the embedded file. With the addition of the EmbeddedFile class in this
release, most of the functionality in AnnotationFile has been stripped out
and moved to that class. The PDF.getEmbeddedFile method, to get or set
embedded files in the document, has been added. The EmbeddedFile class has
also been added to support this functionality. Big improvements to
DeviceGray, CalGray and DeviceCMYK ColorSpaces: PDFs containing those
ColorSpaces now render considerably better.

[016] - dmzBackup 0.3
  by Stefan Lingler (http://freshmeat.net/users/jugador/)
  Mon, Sep 26th 2005 16:02

System :: Archiving :: Backup

About: dmzBackup is a program for backing up data in a heterogeneous DMZ
network. It features disk-to-disk backup of remote/local host data, data
encryption, multiple simultaneous data flows, error logs and email
reporting, a search tool for locating files in a backup, a compressed
index, host timestamps for incremental backups, human readable journal
logs, host based configuration files, command-line arguments for
interactive backups, client side compression, and unlimited (remote)
backup clients for one backup host.

Changes: This release adds a config option 'follow_symlinks', a new host
config 'src_path' syntax (no more file:/ and dir:/ identifiers), an 'all'
argument to loop trough config files (_scripts/backup_all.sh will be
replaced by this new feature), and Mac OS X (FreeBSD) compatibility.
base_path contained unused slashes at the end. Indexes higher than 9 are
now available (they previously lead to an 'invalid argument' error).

  Mon, Sep 26th 2005 08:03

Text Processing :: Markup :: XML
Text Processing :: Markup :: XSL/XSLT

About: EDIReader is a Java package for parsing business documents
structured according to Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) standards. It
supports the SAX and JAXP interfaces defined for XML, making it suitable
for use in any XML-based system that allows the configuration of a
custom SAX parser. Therefore EDI interchanges can be easily transformed
with XSLT or accessed with JDOM.

Changes: This version provides compatibiity with EDIWriter, a companion
product that generates EDI output. This release also changes the way
Functional Acknowledgments (FA/997) are generated as a by-product of
parsing an X.12 interchange. For an interchange with no rejections, 997s
are optionally generated using AK1/AK9 segments to acknowledge acceptance
of each functional group and also AK2/AK5 segments to acknowledge
acceptance of each document within the group. In addition, substantial
internal refactoring was performed to simplify logic, reduce duplicate
code, improve testability, and more.

About: This is a PHP class that attempts to validate a given e-mail
address at three levels: matching the address against a RFC compliant
regular expression, verifing the existence of the destination SMTP server
by verifying the respective DNS MX record, and connecting to that server
to see if the given address is accepted as a valid recipient. The class
also features a debugging output option that lets you see the remote SMTP
server connection and data exchange dialog to see the real cause why an

Scientific/Engineering
Scientific/Engineering :: Chemistry

About: GAMGI (General Atomistic Modelling Graphic Interface) is a program
to build, view, and analyze atomic strucures such as molecules, crystals,
glasses, liquids, etc. It aims to be useful for: the scientific community
working in Atomistic Modelling that needs a graphic interface to build
input data and to view and analyse output data, calculated with Ab-Initio
and Molecular Mechanics programs; the scientific community at large
studying chemistry, physics, materials science, geology, etc., that needs
a graphic interface to view and analyse atomic structural information and
to prepare images for presentations in classes and seminars; teaching
chemistry and physics in secondary schools and universities; science
promotion in schools, exhibitions and science museums.

Changes: Planes and Directions can now be represented outside the Cell
volume. A bug when drawing Bonds has been fixed. The Cell origin can now
be changed to any node, even outside the Cell volume. Cell axes can now be
represented, with primitive or conventional vectors. Cell->Link already
works with arbitrary cell origins for Primitive, Parallelepiped, Sphere,
and Conventional Hexagonal Cell volumes, allowing many more patterns to
fill Cells. Most indexing work to translate Planes in the reciprocal
lattice, when the Cell origin changes, is done.

  Mon, Sep 26th 2005 08:05

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Graphics Conversion
Text Processing

About: Ocrad is the GNU OCR (Optical Character Recognition) program,
implemented as a filter and based on a feature extraction method. It reads
a bitmap image in PBM format and produces text in byte (8-bit) or UTF-8
formats. It also includes a layout analyzer that is able to separate the
columns or blocks of text normally found on printed pages. Ocrad can be
used as a stand-alone console application, or as a backend to other
programs.

Changes: Ocrad is now able to read pgm files. Variable-size arrays in file
block.cc have been replaced by vectors. The algorithm for space detection
in tables have been improved. Some fixes and small improvements have been
made.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: This class can be used to keep track of the pages navigated by a
user, so it can generate back links providing a similar effect to the use
of the Javascript history.back() function. It uses sessions to store an
array variable that holds the URL of each page of a site that the user
accesses. It can limit the number of pages that are kept in the history
array. It may also ignore pages accessed with the POST method or with
certain URLs based on options that define exclusion regular expressions.
The class can generate links to go back to the last page or the first page
that was recorded.

Jabber server. It can be used for many things, but its main purpose is to
allow stateless applications (i.e. the Web) a stateful connection to
Jabber.

Changes: This version has some bugfixes for session initialization. The
error checking is better and the 'route' attribute is now supported in the
HTTP Binding interface. The main reason for this release is that the
session connect bug was huge and caused a memory leak.

About: The svnmailer is a tool that is usually called by a subversion hook
to submit commit notifications in various ways (at the moment: mail via
SMTP or a pipe to a sendmail like program, news via NNTP, or CIA live
tracker notification via XML-RPC). It is derived from the original
mailer.py distributed with subversion, but should be much more consistent,
more extensible, and have many more features.

Changes: This is the first development release towards the 1.1.0 version.
A lot of code has been refactored, and it's not finished yet. The testing
framework has been improved, and the test suite has been extended. User
visible changes include more built-in repository browser URL generators

  by theManInTheYellowHat
(http://freshmeat.net/users/theManInTheYellowHat/)
  Mon, Sep 26th 2005 23:56

About: The Lyric Editor aims to be a full featured editor for the online
collaboration of music lyrics. Its main goal is to replace the typical
"file save" routine with a database backend. Each lyric is broken down
into lines that are either a verse, chorus, bridge, or out. Each line can
have multiple versions, and each version can be tied to the author who
wrote it. The lyric has an author who has the final say over the final
version. The best way to think about this project is Instant Messenger
meets word processor which is umpired with version control.

Changes: The original monolithic FLA file was broken down to seperate
modules. Many improvments were made to the way that the lyric lines are
worked with. A thumbwheel was added for moving backward and forward in the
versions of the lines.Flash LocalConnections are now used for communication
between the Flash modules.

About: The WiKID Strong Authentication System is a highly scalable, secure
two-factor authentication system consisting of a server, a token client,
and network clients that connect a service such as a VPN or Web page to
the WiKID server to validate one-time passcodes. The user enters their PIN
into the token client, where it is encrypted and sent to the server. If the
PIN is correct, the encryption valid, and account active, the one-time
passcode is generated, encrypted, and returned to the user. It is simple
to implement and maintain, allows users to be validated automatically,
requires no hardware tokens, has a simple API for application support via
a COM object and Java component, supports multiple domains, and supports
replication for fault tolerance and scalability.
