Information Management
Multimedia :: Graphics
Office/Business :: Financial :: Point-Of-Sale
About: Barcode Writer in Pure Postscript implements the printing of many
barcode formats entirely within level 2 PostScript, so that the process of
converting the input string into the printed output is performed by the
printer itself. This avoids the need to re-implement the barcode
generation process whenever your language needs change. The project
supports most major barcode formats including EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, UPC-E,
ISBN, Code 128 (A, B, and C), Code 39, Interleaved 2 of 5, Postnet, Code 2
of 5, and Codabar.
Changes: An options parser was added to the renderer. Each renderer was
modified to pass a copy of its user-defined options to the renderer. A new
user-definable option called inkspread that reduces the width of the bars
was added to the renderer.

Thu, Sep 8th 2005 08:01
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
About: Campsite is a multilingual content management system (CMS) for news
Web sites. Campsite's user interface was built with the end user
(journalist, editor, publisher) in mind, and it can be configured to suit
different profiles of end users. Campsite follows the print-newspaper
publishing paradigm, so it structures sites by default as Publications >
Issues > Sections > Articles. Campsite works best for medium-to-large-size
online news publications, but it is capable of handling nimbler sites too.
Changes: Installation fixes were made for Fedora. The code now works with
PHP5. Bugs were fixed in the admin interface. A Russian translation was
updated. Sample template packages were added. Lots of documentation was
added to the manual and INSTALL file. The admin interface can now run on
any port. Template language fixes were made.

Thu, Sep 8th 2005 07:04
Multimedia :: Graphics
System :: Hardware
About: GAMMApage is a program to adjust a monitor's gamma setting, either
fully or by color. It is capable of setting gamma for most Linux
distributions upon login, including those using ATI fglrx_xgamma. It works
both for graphical logins or console logins. It only requires write access
to the user's home directory, not to any system directories. It includes
"preparation" tips with white and black point targets to make gamma
corrections effective. This is the pumped-up, Python/GTK version of
Monica.
Changes: Awareness of various distributions was increased. More robust
troubleshooting messages were written in the case of the file writing

Communications
Information Management
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
About: GeboGebo is a wiki system written for tdbengine. It stores all data
in a local database structure and thus provides an indexed fulltext search.
It uses a simple syntax, and has user lists, pages history, a missing pages
list, and a recent changes list. Image and file upload are possible, but
can be disabled. This allows it to work as a small document management
system. A blacklist allows you to lock existing pages from being edited or
new pages from being created. It can also be run in static mode, where all
pages are additionally held as static HTML pages.
Changes: Due to a missing subdirectory, the minihttp server could not
start before gebogebo had been running at least once on another Web server
before. This bug has been fixed. The subscriptions list did not work since
the last update. This bug is now fixed. A new CreateStaticIndex switch in
the configuration now allows decisions to be made concerning the automatic
index.html file creation.

Security
About: GNU SASL is an implementation of the Simple Authentication and
Security Layer framework and a few common SASL mechanisms. SASL is used
by network servers such as IMAP and SMTP to request authentication from
clients, and in clients to authenticate against servers. The library
includes support for the SASL framework (with authentication functions
and application data privacy and integrity functions) and at least
partial support for the CRAM-MD5, EXTERNAL, GSSAPI, ANONYMOUS, PLAIN,
SECURID, DIGEST-MD5, LOGIN, NTLM, and KERBEROS_V5 mechanisms.
Changes: The gsasl tool now supports STARTTLS for IMAP and SMTP using
GnuTLS. The PLAIN mechanism is preferred over LOGIN when both are
available. The --client and --server parameters for the gsasl tool now
work properly. The --client and --server stdin/stdout modes now use the
readline library. There is improved checking for libidn when the system
needs -R, -rpath, or similar. Build problems in getpass on uClibc and
Mingw32 platforms have been fixed. A Kinyarwanda translation has been
added.

[019] - Kitikat 5.09
by KitiKat (http://freshmeat.net/users/kitikat/)
Thu, Sep 8th 2005 09:24
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
About: The Kitikat Java Framework is a powerful but simple Datastore
processing framework. A Datastore represents an in-memory copy of data. A
program may retrieve the data from a data source, such as a relational
database, manipulate the data, and then propagate the updates of the data
back to the original data source or to a different data source. Once the
data is retrieved, it is a disconnected, data source independent version
of the data. A change history of the data is maintained to provide dynamic
updates to a data source, and there are several levels of concurrency
control provided for multi-user environments.
Changes: This release includes the addition of a JSP tag library and a
refactored engine (SQLEngine has been added).

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation
About: Pigalle (PIcture GALLEry) is a slick Web based photo album written
in PHP 5. It makes it easy to create and maintain photo albums via an
intuitive interface, as users need only upload their files to a server
and let the program generate thumbnails for them. Visitors can choose
their preferred image resolution and images will be generated on the fly.
These generated images are cached and all meta-information such as album
descriptions, image information, and user settings are stored in a
database. A back-end administration interface helps to manage the files,
edit the descriptions, and so on, making it very easy and convenient.
Changes: Album from/to dates are now now stored in GMT time and shifting
is not required. Compatibility with Sourdough 0.3.2 alpha was achieved.

directory to a target directory. It is like the iPod Shuffle software, but
is very simple. It can copy any type of file or restrict the copying to
only Ogg Vorbis or only MP3 files. It can organize Ogg and MP3 files by
artist and supports M3U playlists.
Changes: Basic support was added for extracting tracks from an audio CD
and encoding them to MP3 before copying to the target directory.

System :: Software Distribution
System :: Software Distribution Tools
System :: Systems Administration
About: WPKG is a Samba add-on that will help distribute software to many
clients. You can easily deploy software, packages, and changes without the
need for doing this manually (going from one workstation to another). You
simply configure the software that should be installed on a given machine
or a group of machines, and next time these workstations are booted, the
software you specified is installed automatically.
Changes: Querying packages now works fully, and all /show: and /query:
will work. A /nonotify flag that gets rid of the WPKG notify window was
added along with /noreboot, which prevents the system from rebooting,
regardless of need. New, very detailed checks were provided and detailed
in packages.xml.

traffic such as telnet, FTP, and X to be protected from snooping as well
as potentially gaining performance over low-bandwidth networks from
compression.
Changes: This release provides a fix for a denial of service attack that
could crash the program. It also upgraded the versions of the compression
libraries used (zlib and bzip2) to take advantage of fixes and
improvements in them.
