Text Editors
Text Editors :: Integrated Development Environments (IDE)

About: AEditor is a programmer's editor both for Windows and Unix that
relies on the fox toolkit. It can do syntax coloring, and it's easy to
change the color theme. Most things are customizable. It is written in
Ruby and is carefully unit-tested (it has 277 tests). It is written in
only ~4000 lines of code, so it should be easy to grasp and extend.

Changes: This release adds Jump to matching parentheses, goto buffer
top/bottom, and goto line number. There are improved error messages.

About: Asymptopia Crossword Builder is a JavaScript application. Through
the GUI you can automatically generate unlimited math crosswords
(add/sub/mult/div/alg/frac) or enter/paste your own lists of key:hint
pairs. It uses your browser's print function. You can use it directly
online or download it for offline use.

Changes: A new mode in the fraction generator (Mode=toggled) produces
simple equivalence problems as opposed to the original (more difficult)
algebraic fraction equations.

About: CvsGraph is a utility for generation of graphical representation of
revisions and branches from a CVS/RCS repository.

Changes: This version features the ability to draw partial trees so that
images can be reduced significantly. Tags can now be hidden/shown using
regex matching as to reduce the number of tags in older trees. Most error
and warning messages are shown in the graph so that the chance of invalid
image-generation is reduced. A bug in the branch-folding code where
subtrees were not always folded has been fixed. The imagemap generation
now includes markers for the merge identified revisions so that diffs can
be generated from the image.

About: MedCosm PictureFrame is a simple electronic picture frame. Simply
run it from the command line with the desired delay (in seconds) between
images, and indicate a directory that is filled with images. It will cycle
through displaying full screen (rescaled if necessary) random images from
the directory until the "q" key is pressed or the frame is killed.

Changes: This release has the optional ability to display the picture date
as an overlay on an image; this can be used to re-save images with the date
superimposed on them (useful when sending for digital prints). There are
minor internal changes.

[029] - midea 0.9.5
  by vinyvat (http://freshmeat.net/users/vinyvat/)
  Sun, Aug 15th 2004 17:32

About: Midea is a robust C string API set with regex support, handling
fixed width 8 to 64 bit character sets at runtime (no recompilation is
required). Initialization routines convert multibyte encodings such as
UTF-8.

Changes: bit_array_find has been optimized, and now supports both forward
and reverse searching. bit_array_set is optimized. A mempool_free boundary
deallocation bug is fixed. Allocations within a thread now have very fast
stack behavior. mresize and mideas_resize are fixed for a very rare,
subtle bug where previous allocation was last in a freed mempool storage
unit and new allocation was in a different storage unit. With current
mempool and bit_array optimizations, multi-threaded test mode for
midea/test/memcmp.c is generally fifty percent faster than glibc.

About: Misfit Model 3D is an OpenGL-based 3D model editor. It supports
multi-level undo, skeletal animations, simple texturing, scripting,
command-line batch processing, and a plugin system for adding new model
and image filters. Complete online help is included.

Changes: This is a bugfix and cleanup release. This release adds autoconf
support with fixes for compiling on Debian, Gentoo, Slackware, and Fedora
Core 3. Bugfixes include focus problems with some dialog boxes and fixing
the dark patches around the edges of 3D models on non-hardware-accelerated

  Sun, Aug 15th 2004 16:36

Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)
Communications :: Email :: Post-Office :: IMAP

About: Nail is a mail user agent derived from Berkeley Mail 8.1. It is
intended to provide the functionality of the POSIX mailx command with
built-in support for MIME messages, IMAP (including caching and
disconnected operations), POP3, and SMTP. Nail offers its full command set
both for interactive and batch use, and is especially useful for sending
attachments from scripts or for reading mail via slow connections and on
bad terminals. In recent system environments, nail is Unicode/UTF-8
capable.

Changes: Support for threading and sorting mailboxes has been added. It is
now possible to switch to disconnected IMAP mode and back without leaving
the current mailbox. A couple of new authentication methods are available:
GSSAPI and CRAM-MD5 for IMAP, APOP for POP3, and CRAM-MD5 for SMTP AUTH.
STARTTLS is now supported for IMAP and POP3. Full names of the recipients
can now be retained when replying to a message. A handful of minor bugs
have been fixed.

  by six (http://freshmeat.net/users/six0r/)
  Sun, Aug 15th 2004 08:03

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers

About: Nanoweb is a modular Web server written in PHP. It is designed to
be small, secure, and extensible. It is HTTP/1.1 compliant and has decent
performance, CGI and FastCGI support, a nice configuration system,
name-based virtual hosts, server side includes, authentication, gzip
content encoding support, Apache combined format and MySQL logging, and
many advanced features.

Changes: This release is the first to support PHP5. For the moment, it
doesn't take advantage of PHP5's new features, but at least all the
compatibility problems have been fixed. Sorting of directories in mod_fb
using the chosen file order has been added. Reopening of standard input in
daemon initialization code has been fixed.

About: PCX Firewall is an IPTables firewalling solution that uses Perl to
generate static shell scripts based upon the user's configuration

Multimedia :: Graphics

Scientific/Engineering

About: The PNGwriter library, which requires libpng, allows you to plot to
a 48-bit PNG file, saving it directly to disk. Plotting is as easy as
specifying the red, green, and blue values and the x, y coordinates of the
pixel. It includes functions for plotting simple geometric shapes (circle,
rect, line), plotting text (UTF-8 support for Asian languages), reading
the colour of a pixel, reading in a whole PNG file (great for image
analysis), plotting and reading in HSV colourspace, and many others that
might come in handy.

Changes: Image scaling has been added, as well as a discrete laplacian
function. All figure and text functions are now complemented by versions
that enable blended plotting. The documentation has been reorganized and
reformatted.

While PostgreSQL retains the powerful object-relational data model, rich
data types and easy extensibility of Postgres, it replaces the PostQuel
query language with an extended subset of SQL.

Changes: Several very large features are included in this release. The aim
