[001] - abcm2ps 4.3.3 (Development)
  by Guido Gonzato (http://freshmeat.net/users/goccia/)
  Wednesday, March 24th 2004 03:58

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Conversion

About: abcm2ps is a package that converts music tunes from ABC format to
PostScript. Based on abc2ps version 1.2.5, it was developed mainly to
print baroque organ scores that have independant voices played on one or
more keyboards, and a pedal-board. It introduces many extensions to the
ABC language that make it suitable for classical music.

Changes: This release fixes minor bugs affecting note spacing, and
increases the number of decorations on notes and chords.

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio

About: auCDtect is a tool for analyzing the spectral characteristics of
audio files and determining if they have been compressed with using
codecs. It is useful for checking if a compact disc has been recorded
using MP3 files or from an original source. Tests shows that it is more
than 95% accurate.

Changes: The program now detects conversions from dithered MP3s too.
Wildcards are supported. Reading from standard input (using a pipe) is
supported. Conversions from some Oggs with -q 8-9 are detected.

Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Mail Transport Agents
Communications :: Email :: Mailing List Servers

About: BEJY is a modular server application. It is packaged, by default,
as a Web application container and mail server with SSL. It has
functionality similar to inetd, and has some helper classes/functions to
ease the implementation of new protocols. It provides a generic
multithreaded TPC/IP server implementation with optional SSL support,
covering the complete connection and thread management. Each supported
service provides its protocol implementation. The current version comes
with HTTP, SMTP, POP3, and IMAP protocol implementations. The HTTP
protocol implementation also contains a servlet engine, a JSP 1.2 engine,
a handler to invoke CGI, and other useful things. The mail protocols
require a database using JDBC, as MySQL, MSSQL, and others.

Changes: A bug in the admin page where JDBC drivers could cause exceptions
has been fixed. IMAP handles email flags case insensitively, and also
works with KMAIL. Handling of character encoding has been fixed, e.g.
UTF-8 works now as expected. The servlet loading order is applied
correctly. Query strings in forward/include are now applied to the request
This solves all issues with known cause.

[008] - C++ WSDL Parser 1.5
  by vivek (http://freshmeat.net/users/vivek200120/)
  Wednesday, March 24th 2004 03:59

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML

About: C++ WSDL Parser is an efficient C++ WSDL Pull Parser library with
support for WSDL Extensibility handling, which parses a WSDL file and
provides APIs to access WSDL elements. It also has a library for parsing
XML schema documents and validating instances. It uses a fast and
efficient XML pull parsing methodology, and is meant to be semantically as
close as possible to the standard API viz WSDL4J. It also includes a tool
to produce a C++ header for the WSDL.

Changes: This version adds more documentation, cleans up the interface
API, and adds more utility APIs. The WSDL parser and schema parser can now
be linked as libraries. GNU auto tools are used to make the package user
friendly . There is support for the latest version of gsoap for the
wsdl2cpp tool.

[009] - CD Input and Control Library 0.68
  by R. Bernstein (http://freshmeat.net/users/rocky/)
  Wednesday, March 24th 2004 04:21

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio
Multimedia :: Video
Software Development :: Libraries

About: The Compact Disc Input and Control library encapsulates CD-ROM
reading and control. Applications wishing to be oblivious of the OS- and
device-dependent properties of a CD-ROM can use this library. Some support
for disk image types like BIN/CUE and NRG is available, so applications
that use this library also have the ability to read disc images as though
they were CDs. A sample utility for displaying CD info is included, as is
a library for working with ISO-9660 filesystems.

Changes: This version removes memory leaks caught by Valgrind. Various OS
support was improved on Microsoft Windows 2000, XP, probably NT and ME,
and Solaris, and compiling without POSIX emulation on Cygwin (needed for
vlc ).

[011] - Cluster SSH 1.52
  by Duncs (http://freshmeat.net/users/naggiman/)
  Wednesday, March 24th 2004 09:27

System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks
System :: Systems Administration
Utilities

About: Cluster SSH opens xterm windows with connections to specified hosts
and an administration console. Any text typed into the administration
console is replicated to all other connected and active windows. This tool
is intended for, but not limited to, cluster administration where the same
configuration or commands must be run on each node within the cluster.
Performing these commands all at once via this tool ensures all nodes are
kept in sync. This tool works on Solaris and Linux, and should work on
other POSIX systems (e.g. OpenBSD).

Changes: More user config file options were added. A bug for some Linux
flavors was fixed. The docs were updated. The default key shortcuts were
changed (due to conflicts with EMACS).

  Wednesday, March 24th 2004 04:00

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Software Development :: Code Generators

About: CodeWorker is a scripting language for producing reusable,
tailor-made, evolving, and reliable IT systems with a high level of
automation. An extended BNF syntax allows the definition of new
domain-specific languages or parsing existing formats. A template-based
syntax like PHP and JSP allows the writing of patterns for generating
code. The code generation knows how to preserve protected areas with
hand-typed code and offers code expansion, source-to-source translation,
and program transformation. These tasks are executed in a straightforward
process, with no binding to an external programming language and with no
translation of requirements specification in a constraining format.

Changes: This version should compile on 64 bits processors properly now,
notably on Mac OS X 10.3. A freeze of the console in the interaction mode
under Linux/Unix has been resolved. Some new functions were added. Some
other bugs were fixed.

Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: DualRpcServer is a Java RPC framework for bi-directional method
calls between client and server. No RMI stubs or J2EE remote interfaces
are needed. It is compatible with Java Web Start for deploying and
maintaining applications on hundreds of workstations.

Changes: Enhancements that are helpful to developers using DualRpcServer
were made. If an exception occurs in a remote method, then information
about the real exception is returned rather than a generic
InvocationException. A FAQ.txt that summarizes some of the questions that
have been asked about the project was added.

Database :: Database Engines/Servers
Documentation
Information Management

About: Emdros is a text database engine for annotated or analyzed text. It
is applicable in linguistics, publishing, text processing, and other
fields dealing with annotated text. Emdros has a powerful query language
for asking relevant questions of the data. It is middleware, acting as a
layer between a client (written by the user), and an underlying database.
PostgreSQL and MySQL are supported.

Changes: This is a compatibility release. Support has been added for
Debian woody, Debian sid, flex greater than 2.5.4a, gcc 2.95, and SWIG
1.3.21. Regexes are no longer anchored. Users should only upgrade if they
need the new regex functionality or they need to compile in an environment
which requires the compatibility changes.

  Wednesday, March 24th 2004 15:52

Database
Software Development
Software Development :: Code Generators

About: FireStorm imports database schema definitions from SQL scripts or
from live databases via JDBC, and then generates a complete data-access
tier based on the Data Access Object (DAO) design pattern. The generated
source code is well-written, consistent, and contains documentation.
FireStorm can generate source code based on JDBC/SQL and can also generate
EJB Entity Beans for leading J2EE application servers, such as BEA
WebLogic and IBM WebSphere. FireStorm/DAO is a powerful yet simple
alternative to traditional object-relational mapping products. Rather than
attempting to map any Java code to any database schema using complex
rules, FireStorm generates Java source code that is a one-to-one
representation of a relational database schema.

Changes: New features include roundtrip engineering with a database
synchronization wizard, full JSP client generation, support for Tomcat,
additional EJB code generation support, enhanced BLOB and CLOB data type
support, and a new GUI.

  Wednesday, March 24th 2004 15:57

Communications :: Chat
System :: Networking

About: Gadu-Gadu relaying agent is a simple Gadu-Gadu (an instant
messenger widely used in Poland) protocol relaying agent (proxy). This
means that if you are a network administrator and applying masquerade on
your server, it's likely that your customers would like to establish
direct connections over the masquerade using GG. This program is intended
to be the solution. It can be used to configure transparent proxying of GG
direct connections with the help of iptables.

Changes: This release adds some fixes regarding closing connections too
early, which caused transmission errors when sending files to NATted
clients. A commandline switch has been introduced to be used on large
networks; it causes ggrelay to allocate more space for the UINs hashtable.

About: GeoTools is an open source Java library for developing geospatial
services and applications. It follows, where possible, standards from the
Open GIS Consortium. It has a plugin datasource structure which currently
supports Shapefiles, MIF/MID, PostGIS, ArcSDE, Tiger, Oracle Spatial,
ArcGRID, VPF, and ETopo.

Changes: The DataSource API has been reworked into a new DataStore API
that is more robust and scalable. Many new data formats are now supported,
including Tiger files, ArcSDE, and Geomedia databases. New optional
modules include a graph/network module and a feature validation framework.
This is the first release to contain GUI components, and while they are
still in active development, there is at least something for developers

About: Gestalter is a free vector drawing program. The user interface is
loosely modeled after Adobe Illustrator. The central element is the Bezier
curve used as a base part for almost every other object. Complex paths are
possible, compound paths can be constructed, grouping of elements is
enabled, and everything can be screened by a mask. Adding and deleting of
nodes is implemented as well as transformations (translation, rotation,
scaling, and skewing).

Changes: This release adds patterns. You're free to define any rectangular
area in a drawing as a pattern and fill any object with that pattern
instead of a color or a gradient.

  Wednesday, March 24th 2004 22:47

Software Development

About: Automake is a tool for automatically generating Makefiles compliant
with the GNU Coding Standards. It was inspired by the 4.4BSD make and
include files, but aims to be portable and to conform to the GNU standards
for Makefile variables and targets. Automake is a Perl script. The input
files are called Makefile.am. The output files are called Makefile.in;
They are intended for use with Autoconf. Automake requires certain things
to be done in your configure.in. This package also includes the "aclocal"
program. aclocal is a program to generate an 'aclocal.m4' based on the
contents of 'configure.in'. It is useful as an extensible, maintainable
mechanism for augmenting autoconf.

[031] - IFSgr 0.9.3
  by David Necas (Yeti) (http://freshmeat.net/users/yeti2/)
  Wednesday, March 24th 2004 15:51

Multimedia :: Graphics

About: IFSgr is a command line two-dimensional linear IFS (Iterated
Function System) grayscale renderer. It uses Fractint's IFS file format,
and features automatic fractal scaling and gray level adjustment and
consistent image look independent of size or the numbers of iterations. It
can also convert Fractint files to Gimp IFS Compose files and back.

Changes: IFSgr can now read IFS Compose files and write Fractint files, so
conversion is possible in both directions. A real manual page has been
written. Singular transformations are exported as almost-singular to the
IFS Compose format, so it can at least load them. Multiple outputs to a
single file are now concatenated together instead of each overwriting the
previous one.

Software Development :: Libraries :: Python Modules

About: Libxml2 is the XML C library developed for the Gnome project. The
library code is portable (to Linux, Unix, Windows, embedded systems, etc.)
and modular; most of the extensions can be compiled out. Libxml2
implements a number of existing standards related to markup languages,
including the XML standard, Namespaces in XML, XML Base, Relax NG, RFC
2396, XPath, XPointer, HTML4, XInclude, SGML Catalogs, and XML Catalogs.
In most cases, libxml tries to implement the specifications in a
relatively strict way. To some extent, it provides support for the
following specifications, but doesn't claim to implement them: DOM, FTP
client, HTTP client, and SAX2. Support for W3C XML Schemas is in progress.
It includes xmllint, a command line XML validator.

Software Development :: Interpreters
Software Development :: Libraries

About: Lua is a programming language originally designed for extending
applications, but also frequently used as a general-purpose, stand-alone
language. Lua combines simple procedural syntax (similar to Pascal) with
powerful data description constructs based on associative arrays and
extensible semantics. Lua is dynamically typed, interpreted from
bytecodes, and has automatic memory management, making it ideal for
configuration, scripting, and rapid prototyping. Lua is implemented as a
small library of C functions, written in ANSI C, and compiles unmodified
in all known platforms. The implementation goals are simplicity,
efficiency, portability, and low embedding cost. It has been used on games
such as Grim Fandango, Escape from Monkey Island, and MDK2.

About: Monit is a utility for managing and monitoring processes, files,
directories, and devices on a Unix system. It conducts automatic
maintenance and repair and can execute meaningful causal actions in error
situations. It can be used to monitor files, directories, and devices for
changes, such as timestamps changes, checksum changes, or size changes. It
is controlled via an easy to configure control file based on a
free-format, token-oriented syntax. It logs to syslog or to its own log
file and notifies users about error conditions via customizable alert
messages. It can perform various TCP/IP network checks, protocol checks,
and can utilize SSL for such checks. It provides an HTTP(S) interface for
access.

Changes: This release adds support for file inclusion in the control file
(this function allows for the monit control file to be split into several
fragments and, for example, collected into a monitrc.d directory), SHA-1
checksum and Web interface cleanup, an important bugfix regarding thread

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Graphics Conversion

About: Mrwtoppm provides a command line utility and a Gimp plugin for
processing RAW image files from Minolta's DiMAGE 5 and 7 series digital
cameras. The programs decode Minolta's RAW format, perform Bayer pattern
interpolation, and color space conversion. The programs also perform tone
control and sharpening in CIELab color space. Utilities for displaying
much of the additional data stored in the RAW file are also included.

Changes: Color saturation enhancement is now implemented using a gamma
function (instead of a simple multiplication). Preview scalings are now
saved and restored when pushing/popping crop levels. The on-line
documentation was updated, and a data file was removed because of license
restrictions.

  Wednesday, March 24th 2004 09:25

Internet :: Name Service (DNS)

About: myqslBind manages multiple DNS/BIND (8 and 9) name servers. It
automates updates to multiple DNS servers, centralizes and stores all
zone and resource records for sets of related name servers
(ns0...nsN.yourisp.net), and even manages different name server sets
from a single browser-based interface. Unlimited master and slave name
servers update their zone information via a job queue system that uses
MySQL socket connections. Advanced operations can use mySQL replication
clusters for high availability and redundancy. Large ISPs and other
organizations should note that they can easily add SQL functions to
customize the program for their special needs. It supports
authentication via SSL Unix password login, SSL personal certificate, or
IP-based access with multiple permission levels and individual record
ownership. It is also compatible with mysqlISP.

Changes: Compiler warnings about a const char * issue with
libmysqlclient.a and mysql.h for MySQL 4 was cleaned up. Support for
FreeBSD makes was fixed. The branches were merged back into only one CVS
branch (since the CVS server was down for a while). An AUTO INCREMENT
DEFAULT 0 problem was fixed for some MySQL 4 versions. tClient NavList was
improved. This release was tested on Mandrake 9 with MySQL.

Communications :: Chat
Games/Entertainment

About: Ncohafmuta is a text-based chat server that is designed for access
from a telnet client. Its purpose is to allow users to communicate in a
configurable environment in realtime. It allows users to create accounts
with their own settings and optional personal information. Rooms are the
basis for communication, whether private or public. Other features include
internal email, email forwarding, a configure script for multiple Unices,
support for cygwin under Win32, macros, games, a ranking system with
access to more commands, ANSI coloring, banning, async DNS,
soft/hot-rebooting, detailed, organized logging, and an internal Web
server port.

Changes: A glitch with resetting autoforward limits at midnight for online
users was fixed. The from and to envelope portion of SMTP delivery was
updated to use <> enclosers as per the RFC. The header file dependencies
were added to Makefile.in, so "make" knows to recompile objects when a .h
file changes, and a "make objclean" is no longer needed if you just change
a .h file. The Makefile.in file was cleaned up. The docs/smtp_handling.txt
file, which explains SMTP error/failure/success codes and command-reply
sequences, was updated.

[069] - Perl HL7 Toolkit 0.70
  by Wyldebeast & Wunderliebe (http://freshmeat.net/users/w20e/)
  Wednesday, March 24th 2004 07:27

Software Development :: Libraries :: Perl Modules

About: The Perl HL7 Toolkit provides a simple but flexible Perl toolkit
for using the HL7 protocol. The toolkit consists of a Perl API for
manipulating HL7 messages, an implementation of a pluggable forking HL7
server for developing HL7 capable applications in Perl, and a queue daemon
for polling non-HL7 queues, like database, filesystems, etc., and
translating messages in these queues into HL7 (and vice-versa).

Changes: This release is mainly an internal rebuild of the Message and
Segment classes. Internal storage of the message is now an array of arrays
(of arrays...), which should be much more efficient in manipulating the
message. One important enhancement is that creating a new Message now
results in an EMPTY message. Before, an MSH segment was automatically
added. This feature has been removed, since we do not always want an MSH
segment. This means that this version is not backward compatible.

[072] - PHPtemplater 0.2
  by Juan M. Casillas (http://freshmeat.net/users/theassemblerman/)
  Wednesday, March 24th 2004 20:09

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content

About: PHPtemplater is a PHP class that helps the programmer to manage
templates by isolating the programmer from all the template operations,
allowing the programmer to focus on the template management and data
insertion. PHPtemplater is simple to use and to install. It is extensible,
and supports loop, merge, and conditional tag replacement.

Changes: The scope bug was fixed. Previously, when trying to access a
nested merge or loop tag, the template only worked if the inner tag was
the parent's direct descendant. Now it works properly. A test was added to
check this condition, and the rest of the defined tags were fixed. A bug
was fixed inside the regular expressions used to find the tags. A problem
that prevented proper parsing when spaces were inserted inside the tags
was fixed.

  Wednesday, March 24th 2004 07:03

Internet :: Log Analysis
System :: Networking :: Monitoring
System :: Systems Administration

About: pmacct is a network tool to gather IP traffic information (bytes
counter and number of packets). Aggregation of statistics is done using
simple primitives (MAC addresses, IP addresses, ports, and IP protocol)
that can be used alone or combined together to form complex aggregation
methods. Counters are either global or historical (aggregated and
separated at fixed timeslots). Data is stored in an in-memory table or
using an SQL database (MySQL or PostgreSQL); recovery actions are
available to avoid data loss during DB failures. Gathering packets off the
wire is done using the pcap library; promiscuous mode is only set during
online operations.

Changes: Plugin "names" were introduced: a name can be assigned to each
running plugin, allowing multiple instances of the same plugin type to be
run. Each one is configurable with global or "named" keys. Support for
PPPOE links was added. Handling of syslog logging was improved. Handling
of interfaces down-up was added. Initial work was done to let pmacct work

About: qpopper-mysql is a patch to Qualcomm's qpopper POP3 daemon to
enable it to do user authentication via a MySQL database, support virtual

database for possible MTA SMTP authentication relaying use.

Changes: A mail message of size 0 is skipped now. The maildir_get_flags(),
maildir_put_flags(), and maildir_has_flags() functions were introduced to
manipulate maildir status flags in message filenames. Only the 'S' flag is
used and set, but other retrieved flags will be kept intact. The LAST
command now works. In a Maildir/ message with no body, the inheader flag
is reset, so the next message doesn't show as corrupted. The password
field size in the example MySQL table structure was increased from 32 to
64. The docs were updated to say that mysql-popper.conf is not to be used

multiple clients across multiple logical partitions (vaults). It has some
features that some other rsync-based backup schemes lack, such as being
written in C++, needing no scripts or other programs than rsync and any
binaries on which rsync depends (such as SSH), the ability to manage
multiple instances of rsync connections to separate clients in parallel,
the ability to use multiple logical partitions (vaults) in a configurable
fashion for purporses of redundancy and added reliability, and the use of
hard links for files that have not changed from one archive to the next.

About: Ryan's Anti-Virus Recipe is a Procmail recipe that performs
content-based (as opposed to signature-based) filtering for common email
viruses using Procmail's scoring feature. Emails that are determined to
contain viruses are stamped with a header indicating the name of the
virus and are filtered into a user-specified quarantine folder.

Changes: A virus definition has been added for I-Worm.Netsky.p and a bug
resulting in overzealous detection of I-Worm.Netsky.c/e has been fixed.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search

About: Satellite is a Web site indexing and search package meant for
indexing and searching medium size Web sites. Planned features include
support for a large range of file formats (text, HTML, Word documents,
XSL, PDF, and CHM), an unlimited number of different indexes with one
installation, an unlimited number of result page templates, a Web-based
administrator which allows easy adding, modifying, and deleting of
indexes, fast search processing, and small indexes.

Changes: The search algorithm was completely rewritten, so that it now
supports "google-like" search queries like, "aaa OR bbb AND ccc -ddd".
Nested queries (such as "aaa OR (bbb AND ccc)") are not supported.
Phrase-search is also not supported, but is planned for Satellite 2.1. The
new algorithm has been tested, but not thoroughly. Code cleanup was done
in search.pl. A few minor interface fixes were made in admin.pl.

  by Matt Perry (http://freshmeat.net/users/mpComplete/)
  Wednesday, March 24th 2004 20:32

About: SmartEar allows you to assign different sounds to each of your
buddies and/or groups in gAIM. The sound can be set to play on four
different events independently: receiving an IM, buddy signon, buddy
returns from idle, and buddy returns from away. A timer is also built in
so that a given sound only plays once within a certain time period.

Changes: Multiple sounds can now be associated with different events for a
given buddy or group. The interface has been changed and cleaned up.

[094] - Wine 20040309
  by ngclaude (http://freshmeat.net/users/ngclaude/)
  Wednesday, March 24th 2004 06:45

Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Emulators

About: Wine Is Not an Emulator. It is an alternative implementation of the
Windows 3.x and Win32 APIs. Wine provides both a development toolkit
(Winelib) for porting legacy Windows sources to Unix and a program loader,
allowing unmodified Windows 3.1/95/NT binaries to run under Intel Unixes.
Wine does not require Microsoft Windows, as it is a completely alternative
implementation consisting of 100% Microsoft-Free code, but it can
optionally use native system DLLs if they are available.

Changes: The winegcc tool was greatly improved, and is now used to build
Wine itself. VxDs are now separate libraries for better modularity.
Improvements and simplifications were made to the drive configuration. A
new setupapi INF script was added to create the initial registry. Many
improvements were made to the various multimedia DLLs. Lots of bugfixes
were made.

[099] - ZoneMinder 1.19.1
  by Philip Coombes (http://freshmeat.net/users/pcoombes/)
  Wednesday, March 24th 2004 04:03

Multimedia :: Video
Multimedia :: Video :: Capture
Multimedia :: Video :: Display

About: ZoneMinder is a suite of applications intended for use in video
camera security applications, including theft prevention and child or
family member monitoring. It supports capture, analysis, recording, and
monitoring of video data coming from one or more video or network cameras
attached to a Linux system. It also features a user-friendly Web interface
which allows viewing, archival, review, and deletion of images and movies
captured by the cameras. The image analysis system is highly configurable,
permitting retention of specific events, while eliminating false
positives. ZoneMinder supports both directly connected and network cameras
and is built around the definition of a set of individual 'zones' of
varying sensitivity and functionality for each camera. This allows the
elimination of regions which should be ignored or the definition of areas
which will alarm if various thresholds are exceeded in conjunction with
other zones. All management, control, and other functions are supported
through the Web interface.

Changes: This release addresses a number of issues that were introduced in
the major streaming rewrite of 1.19.0. Primarily these are concerned with
image extraction from network cameras, formatting of image streams out,
and a number of changes to the initial configuration script.
