[001] - Aapl C++ Template Library 2.9
  by Adrian Thurston (http://freshmeat.net/users/age/)
  Monday, December 8th 2003 20:18

Software Development :: Libraries

About: Aapl is a C++ template library for generic programming. It contains
Linked List, Avl Tree, Vector, Binary Search Table, Double Ended Queue,
Finite State Machine Graph, String, and Sort. The library is designed to
be versatile for the programmer. For example, the linked list utilizes
both inheritance and templates to allow a single instance of a data
structure to be an element in multiple lists. In general, Aapl data
structures do not have private data members and are thus not abstracted
away.

Changes: Deque was rewritten and split into Deque for classes with
constructors and destructors and DequeSimp for classes without. A bug that
caused shared binary search table insert functions to modify shared data
was fixed. AvlPmap, AvlPset, AvliPmap, and AvliPset were removed due to a
lack of generality. Test cases were split into stress and non-stress
tests. Tiny template was renamed to be consistent with the rest of Aapl.
Functions for repeating a machine N times were added to FsmGraph.

[002] - absence 1.8
  by Rob Urban (http://freshmeat.net/users/roburban/)

Communications
Office/Business
Office/Business :: Groupware

About: absence is a calendar tool for keeping track of people (but could
be adapted for any other object) on a daily basis. It is meant to replace
that ubiquitous whiteboard in the office of the boss. You know the one,
where someone has used a permanent magic marker to mark a matrix, and
vacations/training/etc. are marked with non-permanent markers as blocks.
absence is a CGI system, and has a resolution of one day. It is not
intended to be used for keeping appointments or any other activity that
requires a finer resolution. It generates an image for each month to be
displayed using the GD library, and it can be configured to produce PNG or
GIF (or even JPEG).

Changes: The current month/day can be highlighted. There are new options
for treatment of holidays and alternating row background color for
readability, colors are all centrally configurable, and there are other
improvements and bugfixes.

Communications :: Email :: Filters
Communications :: Email :: Mail Transport Agents

About: Animail is a multiserver POP3/APOP/IMAP4 (with or without SSL) mail
retrieval utility. It features an advanced filtering system based on
blacklisting, whitelisting, or a combination of both. It is possible to
send an autoresponse which prompts people to reply and add themselves to
the 'autoaccept' file. It also allows filters based on regular expressions
which match against the email headers. (If a message is filtered, only the
header is downloaded, not the entire body.) Combining external filtering
programs (e.g. SpamAssassin or Bogofilter) as message post-download
plugins is also easily acomplished, thus extending filtering capabilities
in an unlimited way. Available delivery options include mailbox, maildir,
local SMTP, and pipe to a command.

Changes: Some thread synchronization problems were fixed.

[011] - audio_burn 0.0.6
  by Neill Miller (http://freshmeat.net/users/neillm/)
  Monday, December 8th 2003 06:25

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Writing

About: audio_burn is a commandline audio cd burning application written in
C. It uses libaudioburn (also written in C) for all of the real work,
which in turn uses several other Free Software packages. It accepts WAV,
Ogg, and MP3 input files, decodes them, and (optionally) normalizes them
before writing them to CD.

Changes: A small delay was added in between I/O callbacks to make the
output smoother during the decoding and normalization stages. WAV file
headers are properly checked to see if resampling is necessary. The WAV
file header is now directly read instead of relying on the shell tool
"file", since some versions did not properly report the required
information. A session at once option (commonly referred to as
disk-at-once) was added.

[019] - Captive 1.1.3.2
  by Jan Kratochvil (http://freshmeat.net/users/kratochvil/)
  Monday, December 8th 2003 04:13

System :: Filesystems

About: Captive provides full read/write access to NTFS disk drives in the
WINE way by using the original Microsoft Windows ntfs.sys driver. It
emulates the required subsystems of the Microsoft Windows kernel by
reusing one of the original ntoskrnl.exe, ReactOS parts, or this project's
own reimplementations on a case by case basis. Involvement of the original
driver files was chosen to achieve the best and unprecedented filesystem
compatibility and safety.

Changes: This release fixes NTFS unmount, thereby no longer invoking
auto-chkdsk when Windows boots. Loss from moving a directory into itself
is now prevented. Various NTFS operations safe refusals have been also
fixed.

Games/Entertainment :: Turn Based Strategy

About: CHEOPS (CHEss OPponent Simulator), or Χεοψ, is
a fully-functional AI chess program capable of human vs. human, human vs.
computer, and computer vs. computer play. It uses a 64-square linear array
board representation. The game tree search is alpha-beta, and the static
evaluation function considers material, mobility, and motif features.
CHEOPS comes with extensive documentation on the program internals, aimed
at students or programmers wishing to understand or extend the system.

Changes: CHEOPS is now packaged in a manner similar to most GNU programs,
including a "configure" configuration and installation script suitable for
Unix-like systems. The LaTeX manual has been revised. A Unix man page is
now available. The --version and --help command-line options are now
supported.

[021] - Clean Slate Smalltalk 0.2
  by water (http://freshmeat.net/users/water451/)
  Monday, December 8th 2003 04:16

Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Interpreters

About: Slate is a prototype-based object-oriented programming language
based on Self, CLOS, and Smalltalk. Slate syntax is intended to be as
familiar as possible to a Smalltalker, rather than engaging in divergent
experiments in that respect. However, the language semantics, environment,
and run-time design are all much more powerful than in traditional
Smalltalk systems.

Changes: The libraries now include extensive exception handling, live
debugging, unit testing, and an inspector. The streaming framework was
overhauled and replaced with a more generic toolkit. Development abilities
were enhanced by OS command shell access, saving and loading object heap
snapshots, and improvements to the Emacs mode. The language was also
upgraded, with new subjective programming features and optional named
arguments.

Software Development
Software Development :: Build Tools
Software Development :: Code Generators

About: cutee is a C++ unit testing environment that makes it really easy
to create and run tests of a library or application. It will
automatically generate Makefiles, runner classes (classes that execute
test functions), and main test application code. It will also
automatically update Makefiles and support classes whenever you add new
test functions or modify old ones. It easily integrates with plain
Makefile projects and with  Autotools.

Changes: quickstart Makefile(.dist) has been added. The "clean" make
target has been moved out of autocutee.mk (into Makefile[.am]).
runtest-clean has been removed, and moved to the "clean" target. Tests are
now (by default) executed after being compiled but not on every execution
of 'make'.

[027] - Easy Hibernate Cache 0.6
  by Greg Luck (http://freshmeat.net/users/gregrluck/)
  Monday, December 8th 2003 09:21

Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: Easy Hibernate Cache is a fast and simple, pure Java, in-process
cache, which acts as a pluggable cache for Hibernate 2.1. It has a small
memory footprint, minimal dependencies, and full documentation.

Changes: A bug in Hibernate Cache Provider where incompatible timestamps
were generated was fixed. A documentation bug in ehcache.xml and
ehcache-failsafe.xml where "Time to Live" was incorrectly referred to as
"Time to Idle" was fixed. SoftReferences for cache element values has been
replaced with standard references. The JDK 1.4.2 JVM was found to remove
SoftReferences in normal operation, rather than the expected behavior of
being used only to avoid memory exhaustion.

Software Development :: Debuggers

About: The GNU Debugger (GDB) is a source-level debugger for C, C++, Java,
Modula-2, and several other languages. It runs on GNU/Linux, the BSD's,
and almost every major proprietary OS. GDB can debug programs running on
the same machine as itself, or it can communicate over a network or serial
line with a debugging stub on another machine; thus, it can be used for
embedded and kernel debugging.

Changes: Support for debugging the Objective-C programming language has
been integrated into GDB. A New backtrace mechanism was added, which
includes DWARF 2 Call Frame Information. GDB's remote protocol has been
extended to include support for hosted file I/O (where the remote target
uses GDB's file system). All of GDB's targets have been updated to use the
new internal architecture framework. The way is now open for future GDB
releases to include cross-architecture native debugging support. Profiling
support was added.

  Monday, December 8th 2003 05:44

System :: Networking

About: A QoS script which uses the ESFQ and IMQ (patches to the Linux
2.4.x and 2.6.x kernels) queues to throttle and fair share bandwidth
evenly across a arbitrary number of computers transparently. Configuration
of the script after patching the kernel is very easy and there is also
"advanced" user tweaking available.

Changes: A general tidy up was done where RED support was tweaked and
DWIFSPEED and QOS_GATEWAY_TRAFFIC were removed. Support for an external
configuation file and IPP2P is now available, while the Edonkey "support"
has been replaced with a generic system where you simply list TCP port
numbers. IMQ, ESFQ, IPP2P, and CONNMARK were ported to the 2.6.x kernel
series. A patch is now also included to make IMQ/NAT and ESFQ work

Communications
Internet
Internet :: Proxy Servers

About: Kipt (Kizome's ISA Piercing Tool) is an HTTP proxy server and
proxying name server with the ability to forward requests to other HTTP
proxies or to get the documents directly from hosts. It can go through MS
ISA Server or MS Proxy doing NTLM authentication. If you're stuck behind a
restrictive firewall or proxy with at least one port open for outgoing
connections and you have access to a machine outside, you can have nearly
full Internet access by using this proxy and the socksify program from
dante.

Changes: This release adds generic subprocess support, non-MS proxy
support, a new stream multiplexer to install on the external machine for
faster connections, more robust DNS and HTTP handling, and an SMTP sender
for use with your MTA.

[057] - Legion of the Bouncy Castle Java Cryptography API 1.21
  by David Hook (http://freshmeat.net/users/davidhook/)
  Monday, December 8th 2003 06:49

Security :: Cryptography
Software Development :: Libraries

About: The Legion of the Bouncy Castle Java Cryptography API provides a
lightweight cryptography API in Java, a provider for the JCE and JCA, a
clean-room implementation of the JCE 1.2.1, generators for Version 1 and
Version 3 X.509 certificates, PKCS12 support, and APIs for dealing with
S/MIME, CMS, OCSP, and OpenPGP. Versions are provided for the J2ME, and
JDK 1.0-1.4.

Changes: This release rounds out the OpenPGP support and fixes a number of
bugs. The major bugs were the fact that the CertPath validator would fail
for some valid CRLs, some of the AES OIDS for S/MIME were still incorrect,
the CertPathBuilder would sometimes throw a NullPointerException looking
for an issuer. The BigInteger class for J2ME users no longer goes into an
infinite loop generating prime numbers.

About: Music Manager is a Konqueror plugin that lets you standardize the
filenames of your music files, guess information and set ID3 tags from the
file's name (this can be done to several files in one shot), rename many
selected files based on their ID3 tags, set ID3 tags in mass for selected
files with options for copying ID3s from other files and leaving some ID3
fields untouched, rename _ to space and vice versa, create HTML and text
indexes of your collections (including total playing time, etc.,
configurable through templates), create nice CD covers with full listings
of your music files (also configurable through templates), and organize
your music collection to create a CD.

Changes: A configuration dialog was added in KControl. An icon was added
in the popup menu. Filename extension normalization was fixed. Masstagger
now opens the file-open dialog in the current directory. ".flac" (for Free
Lossless Audio Compressor) was added to the list of known extensions.

[093] - Seed Spambots 1.02
  by Stephen Misel (http://freshmeat.net/users/stevemisel/)
  Monday, December 8th 2003 20:09

Communications :: Email

About: Seed Spambots generates HTML pages and email addresses for
spambots, sending them to a honeypot SMTP server which reports checksum
data to various clearinghouses and gathers other spam statistics. Most
other spambot feeders simply invent fake domains and email addresses,
which is of limited use since most spammers verify their lists prior to
using them.

Changes: Impending passage of "CAN SPAM" has renewed some interest in this
project, since it will make harvesting email addresses a federal offense
when it takes effect on January 1st, 2004. This release adds more
addresses with the harvester's IP address as well as the epoch time of the

[105] - Visual Molecular Dynamics 1.8.2
  by VMD (http://freshmeat.net/users/vmd/)
  Monday, December 8th 2003 11:37

Multimedia :: Graphics :: 3D Rendering
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Viewers
Scientific/Engineering

About: VMD (Visual Molecular Dynamics) is designed for the visualization
and analysis of biological systems such as proteins, nucleic acids, lipid
bilayer assemblies, etc. It may be used to view more general molecules, as
VMD can read standard Protein Data Bank (PDB) files and display the
contained structure. VMD provides a wide variety of methods for rendering
and coloring a molecule: simple points and lines, CPK spheres and
cylinders, licorice bonds, backbone tubes and ribbons, cartoon drawings,
and others. VMD can be used to animate and analyze the trajectory of a
molecular dynamics (MD) simulation. In particular, VMD can act as a
graphical front end for an external MD program by displaying and animating
a molecule undergoing simulation on a remote computer.

Changes: OpenGL rendering performance improvements on all platforms. The
Mac OS X version has been updated for 10.3. Eight new file reader plugins
have been added, supporting new density and potential map file formats,
and two new molecular dynamics restart file formats. Several trajectory
reader plugins now support 64-bit file sizes. A new "draw multiple frames"
feature can render trajectories of interesting parts of a simulated
structure so their path over time can be seen all at once. Several user
interface improvements, particularly with regard to working with
volumetric data sets.

submit the data. The utility will also crawl links within the site in
order to identify and flood additional forms that may be present.

Changes: This release includes some significant new features regarding
user tweaks to the form analysis engine and submitter, fixes a few bugs,
and continues to extend support to HTML forms using Javascript. Most
significantly, if the form analyzer doesn't know what to do with a form
element, you can tell it how to deal with that element through the

About: XIST is an XML-based extensible HTML generator written in Python.
XIST is also a DOM parser (built on top of SAX2) with a very simple and
Pythonesque tree API. Every XML element type corresponds to a Python
class, and these Python classes provide a conversion method to transform
the XML tree (e.g. into HTML). XIST can be considered "object oriented
XSL".

Changes: Namespace handling has been rewritten to be more standards
compliant (no more namespace prefixes for entity references or processing
instructions). Global attributes will now always generate the appropriate
xmlns attributes. Support for uTidylib has been added, and arguments can
be passed to tidy. The HTMLParser can handle global attributes. When
