[001] - ANTLR plugin for Eclipse 1.0.5
  by Torsten Juergeleit (http://freshmeat.net/users/tjuerge/)
  Sunday, December 7th 2003 07:49

Software Development :: Code Generators
Text Editors :: Integrated Development Environments (IDE)

About: This project adds plugins for the lexer/parser generator ANTLR to
the Eclipse platform. The plugins provide a grammar file editor with
syntax highlighting, outline view and a project nature with incremental
builder.

Changes: This release consists of some minor bugfixes to "org.antlr.ui".
These fixes enable the print option, NPE in ConversionAction, and fix the
missing plugin dependency for Eclipse 3.0.

[002] - AudioLink 0.05
  by Amit Shah (http://freshmeat.net/users/amitshah/)
  Sunday, December 7th 2003 12:41

Database
Desktop Environment :: File Managers
Home Automation

About: AudioLink is a tool that makes searching for music on your local
storage media easier and faster. Your searches can include a variety of
criteria, like male artists, female artists, band, genre, etc. It is
flexible: you can use a command line interface or your choice of multiple
GUIs, design your own search criteria, etc. You can search MP3 and Ogg
files and use AudioLink to categorize your music collection.

Changes: This release is a big step forward as far as the usability and
user-friendliness of the package goes. There's a new script, audiolink,
which (interactively) creates a config file for the user which stores
oft-used settings. The new script also creates the database and tables, so
there is no need to do 'make createdb', etc., which is a big plus for
general users.

  by vrai (http://freshmeat.net/users/acherondevelopment/)
  Sunday, December 7th 2003 12:38

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
System :: Installation/Setup

About: AudioSetup provides an ultra-simplistic interface for Solaris audio
devices. It is designed to be used in the same way as the mixerctl
application provided with Solaris, namely in scripts or when a GUI is not
available.

Changes: This release can be used to set the balance of the output. The
bug that reset settings not specified in the command line arguments has
been fixed. Now settings that are not explicitly set will be left
untouched.

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players

About: Autogg is an Ogg player that categorizes music independently of the
catalog structure. It exclusively uses tags to sort by album and artist.
Music can then be inserted into a playlist from the sorted treelist.

Changes: A crash after a couple of songs were played when using the Fedora
Core 1 Linux distribution has been fixed.

  Sunday, December 7th 2003 03:26

Multimedia :: Graphics
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Graphics Conversion

About: batchgimp is a batch processor for rendering of images. It uses a
command-line interface, and supports JPEG, GIF, PNG, and PSD file formats.
It accesses the GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP) plug-in structure to
provide image processing functions. Images are processed in a batch for an
entire directory. batchgimp is written in Perl and interfaces with the
Scheme scripting engine provided by the GIMP.

Changes: This version enables calling of twenty-one new GIMP functions in
batch mode, including plug-ins and scripts. In total, around sixty-two
modular image transformations are available for the command-line, and
many more if strung together in multiple changes in JPEG, PDF, GIF, PNG,
PSD, PostScript, and TIFF file formats.

  by Jack Lloyd (http://freshmeat.net/users/randombit/)
  Sunday, December 7th 2003 07:14

Security :: Cryptography
Software Development :: Libraries

About: Botan is a library of cryptographic algorithms written in C++. It
includes a wide selection of block and stream ciphers, public key
algorithms, hash functions, and message authentication codes. It has an
easy-to-use filter interface and supports many common industry standards,
including X.509v3.

Changes: A new module called "minimal" was added, which removes most of
the algorithms from the base library, leading to a smaller build. Support

System :: Operating System Kernels :: Linux

About: The Capability Override LSM is a Linux kernel module which, when
installed, gives processes running with certain (admin-configured) user or
group IDs access to one or more POSIX.1e capabilities.

Changes: Rule checks are done at program load rather than for each system
call, so there is less overhead. The policy can specify which rules should
cause audit data to be produced. The policy compiler has much better error
checking. Several bugs in the module were fixed, including a memory leak,
and a race that occurred when using path checks.

About: CIT uses the Eros BBS engine to build a customer information
tracker. It has two tables so far: contact (which stores first name, last
name, pager, email, and an organization id) and organization, which stores
a name for the organization, a billing address, and a shipping address.
You can have as many contacts as you want, and as many organizations as
you want (within the limits of disk space). So far, you can manage
(add/edit/delete) contacts and organizations, and display the list of
contacts associated with an organization.

Games/Entertainment :: Puzzle Games
Games/Entertainment :: Turn Based Strategy

About: GGTL is a C library to help people program computer games. It is
targeted in particular at two-player zero-sum games with perfect
information. Examples are Chess, Checkers, Go, Othello (Reversi),
Tic-Tac-Toe, and Connect-4. For such games, GGTL can provide Alpha-Beta
game-tree search (both fixed-depth and iterative deepening), unlimited
undo, and saving to/resuming from files. Three example games, Othello,
Connect-4, and Tic-Tac-Toe, are included.

Changes: The way moves and positions can be represented is now much more
flexible (they do not need to be self-contained), the iterative deepening
routine have millisecond granularity, games can be saved in non-binary
format, users have much more control over how GGTL caches moves and
positions, and generic code and documentation cleanups have taken place.

  Sunday, December 7th 2003 12:49

Desktop Environment :: K Desktop Environment (KDE)
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Viewers

About: Gwenview is a simple image viewer for KDE. Image loading is done by
the Qt library (so it supports all image formats your Qt installation
supports). It features a folder tree window and a file list and thumbnail
window to provide easy navigation in your file hierarchy, and uses docked
windows to allow you to alter the layout in any way you want.

Changes: This release shows a wait icon for not-generated-yet thumbnails
and a broken icon for broken images. The zoom is now updated if an image
is rotated when auto-zoom is on. A crash when loading XCF images if
Gwenview was compiled with gcc 3.3.1 has been fixed. Before running an
external tool, the working directory is changed to the current folder.
When switching images in fullscreen, the cursor is not shown. Some icons
have been redrawn.

[030] - KAlarm 1.0.0 (KDE 3)
  by David Jarvie (http://freshmeat.net/users/djar/)
  Sunday, December 7th 2003 18:26

Utilities

About: KAlarm lets you configure personal messages to be displayed,
commands to be executed, or emails to be sent, at scheduled times. It
allows you to choose the message font and color, how often to repeat,
whether to display an advance reminder, whether to play a sound when the
message is displayed, and whether to cancel the alarm if it can't be
triggered on time (e.g. if you are logged out at the time). As well as
using the graphical interface to configure alarms, you can use the command
line, and there is a DCOP interface for other applications.

Changes: A memory leak in email alarms and excessive DCOP calls to the
alarm daemon after running continuously for a long time. have been fixed.
Entered start date/time for timed recurrence events is allowed to be
earlier than now. There are new/improved GUI translations (French, German,
Norwegian (Nynorsk), and Polish). Estonian documentation has been added.

  Sunday, December 7th 2003 03:18

Software Development :: Debuggers
Software Development :: Testing

About: Kodos is a regular expression designer, tester, debugger, and
validator that allows a developer to create and modify regular expressions
against a test string. The intuitive interface allows the developer the
ability to modify the regular expression (regex) and to see the effects
against their test string in real-time.

Changes: This version adds a regex library which aims to be a repository
of common reusable regular expression patterns. It now attempts to save
and restore window positions and sizes. It now prompts the user to save
their work before exiting or before performing an action that would
otherwise result in the loss of their work. The look and feel of the
regex reference guide was updated.

[036] - Linux Bandwidth Arbitrator 4.2 (Guide)
  by astormchaser (http://freshmeat.net/users/astormchaser/)
  Sunday, December 7th 2003 18:38

System :: Networking
System :: Systems Administration

About: Linux Bandwidth Arbitrator allows beginning-to-advanced network
administrators to control bandwidth. It is designed to be completely
turn-key in its default configuration. You just plug it into your network
trunk, and it self configures and immediately starts slowing "bandwidth
hogs". It can be configured to target specific applications such as Kazaa,
IMAP, and POP. It also comes with denial of service protection and a
special reservation system for voice and video traffic QOS.

Changes: In this release, a new utility is documented that will allow you
to monitor, in real time, the type of application(s) users are running
(Bearshare, Kazaa, etc.), and how much bandwidth they are consuming. There
is also a documented sample application on how to build a notification
system based on application usage by a user. The example application could
be used to take action (send an email message) if a particular user starts
a Kazaa download.

Software Development :: Embedded Systems
System :: Networking

About: wrt54g-linux is a mini-distribution for the Linksys wrt54g
802.11b/g access point and router. It includes basic tools such as sh,
syslog, telnetd, httpd (with cgi-bin support), vi, snort, mount, insmod,
rmmod, top, grep, find, nfs modules, etc. The installation script runs in
about 20 seconds and installs strictly to the RAM disk. If you mess
anything up, simply reset the box. After installing the distribution
you'll be able to telnet in, add Web pages, change iptable rules, change
routing, configure snort, etc.

Changes: This version adds dproxy-nextgen, a caching nameserver. This
allows users to use wrt54g as the DNS and also allows them to have
private name resolution. By adding entries to /var/etc/hosts, they can
refer to machines on a home LAN by name. "Blacklist" names can be added
to the file to prevent proper name resolution, i.e. "127.0.0.1

[064] - sonar 1.2.1
  by red0x (http://freshmeat.net/users/red0x/)
  Sunday, December 7th 2003 00:49

Communications
Internet
System :: Networking

About: sonar is a network reconnaissance utility. It runs all its scans
from plugins. The currently supported plugins are an ICMP scan (a la the
original sonar) and an ACK scan which can see if hosts that don't respond
to ICMP are online. With the ability to create your own plugins, sonar is
becoming the most extensible security scanner available.

Changes: Major updates were made, including new plugins, better
documentation, logging to syslog, and working input/output plugins. You
can now compile plugins from outside the sonar source-tree, making it
easier to start your own plugin projects after sonar is already installed.
Results are now reported in a general format that output plugins can
recognize and parse however they want. Fixes for a gcc 2.95 compile bug
were included.
